How the hell did your horse get access to a mug of rat poison? Someone needs shooting - and not the rat. Just hope he is okay.

Our friends Shetland did the same thing about 3 weeks ago . Someone had cleared out the tack room and put the bait trap outside , the shetland kicked it over and decided to eat the contents. We managed to get most of it out of his mouth but rang the vets anyway. They told us to stable him overnight and then see how he was in the morning as they doubted very much if the amount he had consumed would hurt him . Also ,apparently, it loses strength over time and no one knew how long it had been in the tack room. Next morning he was starving hungry and perfectly ok thank goodness.

WELL! all the horses have now gone out to grass so the 'yard man' decided to try and control the rat problem by putting poison down......
Josh, being his playful little self decided to bite the leadrope and set himself free and decided that the poison was tasty!!!

I immedietly shoved my hand in his mouth trying to scrape what i could out then panicked and rang the vet who said that there is nothing they can do anyway as hes a big horse (16hh Welsh) and the amount of Vit K it would take to counteract the poison would be silly so.......basically hope he will be ok!! but she said that 1 mug would just about kill 2 rats so HOPEFULLY he will be ok when i go to yard in the morning! just thin his blood a bit......................

they apparently give it to humans when theyve had strokes so i think he will be fine

I'm sure he'll be fine . The shetland suffered no problems and is still as troublesome as ever. Let us know how he is tomorrow . Will keep my fingers crossed for him .
