I didnt know if I should post this too soon and tempt providence but here goes.

My horse bucks he is big and I come off every time or did. Now I am not talking about your foot in the stirrup mount and get bronc'd off around an arena I am talking more about either a yippee mum this is fun buck or a shooting off thats frightened me buck.

Technically its head down between the knees and and form a sort of paper-clip shape, eject rider out of saddle and then when she is crying at her own inadequacies come trotting back saying sorry mum why are you dwon there!

So you get the picture and he is 17hh which hurts at my age.

So post my last dismissal and a compete loss of nerve Friday before Chrsitmas I decided to sell then I decided to wait until the market was more buoyant and then I decided if I was going to waitt I might as well have lots of lessons in the meantime.

Sorry..... are you yawning yet?

Well Miss has been giving me weekly lessons and talking to me lots about young horses (rising seven) their reactions and how to stay on both on the flat and post jumping a fence.

Well the lad has had a couple of whoopee doohs and every time my brain has said stand up and I have and I dont fall off!!

I even managed to stay on after a fence (not big I'm a lemon) when he landed and decided to show off to a pal by putting his nose between his toes and go.

Dont get me wrong he doesnt buck every time he is ridden or every time I jump its just I was turning into nervous nellie and suddenly it doesnt all seem so bad anymore because my automtic reaction is not the death dive of heels back bum in the air land on head but stand up get your bum off the ejector button and lift your hands.

brilliant! getting your confidence back is half the battle. My boy loves a good buck, out of cheekiness and excitement more than anything but he is good at the bucking and twisting variety. Sitting through it feels such a great achievement! I tend to struggle staying on due to laughing when my lad starts as he is 23 and i love to see him so full of it!
Glad the lessons have paid off and hopefully you can continue enjoying your horse, are you going to keep him now?

Fantastic

I often used to stand up in the stirrups out of my own accord

did it 'all wrong,' according to one lady, who came off every time

. But I find it makes the ride a lot smoother too!!

Big well done for continuing

Keeping my options open but currently I enjoy everyday with him the lessons have helped a lot and put a lot of my issues into perspectove that and a change of diet (him not me).

I am trying to have a flat and jump alternate weeks with the odd lunge lesson thrown in. I thought if I am going to send him on Schooling Livery at £100 and odd quid a week why not spend the money on us and see how we get on over a longer period.

I'll never say never but am on a positive vibe with him. Now my next step is to find a new yard with more turn out and good hacking. There are loads in my area just not specifically where I want them though I have put myself on Project Rider with a good mate and told her her mission is to help me move yards to somewhere that would suit us.

You know Project Rider its like Project Horse but for riders who need a good friend to school them up and help them make decisions.

Anyhow we are currently good mates long may it 'uh hum' rein!!

Good logic, spending the money on lessons rather than sales livery

.

I have always had youngsters and my intructor who has had to put up with me for years

, keeps telling me that you take 2 steps forward and 1 step back for quite a while with the. Steep learning curve, then a plateau and then another big curve. She's right but it can be very bloody frustrating that's for sure.

I'm glad you are enjoying him and I hope you find somewhere more suited to your needs soon. That is half the battle, being happy where you are

Flibble that sounds great, long may it continue! I expect you're both enjoying not parting company, literally and figuratively speaking!

Well done to you, being brave enough to get back on a give it a go deserves a huge big hug.
Hope it all continues to go really well for you but do remember there will always be a few things thrown in to test you, but you seem to have got over the worst of it now
