Who's going to save the Parelli horses?

After watching the Parelli programme last night on channel 280 I felt quite sick when Lynda Parelli got the owner of the demo horse to pull it hard by its tail across the arena (what the hell does that prove)! I found the whole programme very intimidating for the poor horse, who was clearly frightened, and with Lynda bigging herself up to the audience I wish I was there to punch her.

I am sure that there are benefits, if people go for Parelli properly. I've had too many annoying experiences with people watching the DVD, getting a carrot stick and messing around with it to no avail, just being full of it.
 
I keep an open mind with everything and that's why I watched the programme, in case it was interesting, but that one upset me, particularly when he was being pulled hard by the tail. Could anyone tell me what this achieves?
 
You see the thing with Parelli is you have to think like a horse and act like a horse.It is all about respecting eachother and seeing things from the horses point of view.I often pull my horse around the arena by his tail it is me telling him that i want to go this way so you must follow me.He will quite often let me pull him around for a couple of hours quite happily.
 
Oh dear, here we go again. Some parts of parelli can be very beneficial for some, maybe not others. They want to help, not harm.

Yeah, cause I often see horses in the field pulling each other around by their tails....
 
I understand that humans need to know how horses think and I have achieved a great deal with my horse after having a Monty Roberts' associate in to help but I wouldn't want Lynda Parelli near my horse.
 
QR why would this be a wind up.If you watch the masters on horse and country you would see that tail pulling is a common thing to those who practise Parelli,as is making your horse move the way you want to by waving the carrot stick into the line of vison or gently tapping their faces with the stick.Pure genius.
 
You see if i get off my horse in the arena and abandon her she will just follow me as she trusts me and already knows I'm in charge. However if i got off her and pulled her tail she would go beserk...

So you see Rema she already respects me and i respect her, we have our differences but i don't need to hang a carrot stick around for her to get a response, plus she would eat the stick!!

I must be missing something .......Why would you "often" want "to pull your horse round an arena for a couple of hours" ? How is this "behaving like another horse "? I just don't get the thinking behind an exercise like that, please, educate me
 
I dont understand why they do parrelli eithir.I dont think it right . i was watching it one day and they were hitting the horse inbetween it ears . i dont not understand why they were doing it. i dont like the way she/ he was towarsd the horse with his perosnal space aswell! ERR super spudley and myself regulary have this arguement over parelli.
i get rather heated !!

You MUST play the seven games with your horses.They love it.You have to educate your horse to do as you say.They will not get smacked if they do as you ask.You have to become the herd leader and they must obey your every command or be reprimanded.
 
i'm sorry but tapping your horse on the face with a stick and pulling it about by it's tail cannot be described as pure genius!!

i understand that by learning more about horses way of communication with each other, we can use it in how we communicate with them, but how does that translate into carrot sticks and tail pulling??

there's nowt queer as folk!!

monty roberts is genius and i think is truly fantastic

however in agreement with AandK about tapping horses on the face etc. god if i did that to mine i think he would probably rear up and run away and not come near me again ever. and obeying every command and reprimanding??? this is not the army love

I'm sorry but I really struggle to believe this can be a good use of ''a couple of hours''!!
But hey if my horse would let me I wonder of it'd be better than being dragged by the front end in a headcollar when he spies some grass!!

We have some liveries that practice parelli. I'm a pretty open minded person but from what i have seen them do ( they do it as a living) I cannot see the joy in it. like when they first came onto our yard and where trying to pull a pony over with lines around its legs, for some bizzare reason.

At the end of the day, I think it just reaks the horses spirit. All of there horses are very perculiar & also cause the most trouble on the yard.
 
i think there are a few people who REALLY benefit from parreli!! those who are making shed loads of cash out of it!! i like to try + keep an open mind to all training methods, u neva know when they mite come in handy, but im yet to see any benefits come of this 1!!
 
Rema, if this is not a wind up good for you for sticking up for what you believe in- it has obviously been beneficial to you. However, pulling around by the tail? How does this teach respect for personal space? (I seriously am interested). I taught my horse personal space by getting her to back up on command, walk forward/sideways on command (body language or lead rope), never invovled tapping on face with stick (or anywhere with a stick TBH).
