Forgive me if there is actually an official 'sports cob', but from a quick google search there didn't seem to be, sooo....

Who's got one of those horses who can't really be called a cob but still has a touch of the chunky/hairy, with maybe bit of something warmblooded in it somewhere? Perhaps a bit too solid to be called a sports horse, looks cuddly but thinks he's a racehorse?

I've got one - Rupert's breeding is a mystery, his mum is a hairy chunky cob, but he's definitely not - I've had suggestions ranging from Arab to TB to warmblood to trotter to welsh D as ideas of what his sire is. He's 15hh and 4 years old, loves dressage and jumping, managed to learn flying changes in an afternoon. I get the impression that if he was to look in the mirror he'd see a 17hh jet black thoroughbred...!

So here's my Sports Cob, who else has got one? :D

ahh that made me chuckle i always tell people my little cob is just a warmblood in disguise! she's a cob-blood :D she's part bred welsh with a bit of cob along the way! but i think she disguises well, i keep her feathers clipped off and her mane pulled so none realises ;)

she's 4years old, loves to jump learns well on the flat and does a beautiful dressage test and and doesn't have hotblood tendencies! (unless fed haylege :L ) defiantly the best sort of horse to have! turn her hoof to anything she even came 2nd in a big potential sport horse class which i entered unintentionally because i thought i'd entered the hunter class - late entry later and she won that class too and went reserve! now that is a true all rounder ;)

I defo own one!!

Mine is a hunting demon, and when not charging around the hunting field, competes in SJ/XC/ode's/wh classes.

I liken him to a Range Rover sports - a chunky 4 x 4, but with a hell of an engine!

If I ever sold him he would be described as 'not a plod cob'!!!

Aww sports cob, love it!! I think Drum could be one, he is also one who thinks he is a tb. Someone did ask if he was a Lipizana once, nooooo just a silly cob!!

Wow lots of Sports Cobs! We'll have to start a club :)

alliersv1 - I wonder if mine has trotter in him, he looks like he could be a relation of your Sports Cob!

Meeeee I've got one! Although now retired her mum was a huge cob as chunky as they come, Dad was a 'British sports pony' and was a mix of something like 25% Arab and the rest was welsh/TB... But she was an absolute superstar in her day

And the other day in her winter woolies - with my new horse... Her toy boy

Totally agree with the cob-blood :) he's a secret warmblood in disguise! But with the added bonus of being level headed!

Here's my cobatron! He'll turn his hoof to anything...pre novice evented before i bought him, but he'd rather not do dressage as it's far to slow and boring!
Hacking he laughs in the face of farm machinery, cars, cyclists etc! But keeps me on my toes at a scary huge dock leaf...
He's very reponsive to leg aids, if you got on him like some other kick along cobs... you'd be going off at a hundred miles an hour!
XC he pulls like a train!
Tows me into jumps, and will jump 1.20 with ease!

He's 15.2 and unsure of he's breeding other than horse to come over the water from Ireland :)

I have a coloured lusitano ;) She can only really be called a cob, breeding is who knows? But her legs are too fine and she's too horsey to be a cob really, I just make up her breed but she's best friends with a luso and they have the same conformation, rosie just has more hair

My Buds is a sports cob for you :p He is only four but already a super allrounder, with a level head but plenty of go. I adore him :D He loves jumping, hunting and is pretty nifty on the flat too. Hacks alone or in company and is bomb proof in all traffic.
He is 16hh and by a id x vanner stallion out of a welsh pony cob :)

I have one too, Ollie believed to be cob x warmblood. He's a fab allrounder who loves to jump/crosscountry. He becomes very hairy in winter though :)

Me!

This is CP, technically I bought her as Milly, however her passport is Ballingowen Lilly and so we have gone for 'Lilly'. But the name CP arose as I call her my little cow pony!

I bought her from Emma Hinkley in May. This little horse has transformed my life, I love riding again and she makes me :D

She is so kind and tries her heart out, she gives mini-W endless pony rides and lets him lead her around like a dog!

She has hairy heels and requires careful trimming to ensure she does not look out of place among the posh warmbloods on our yard ;) She has effortlessly taken on the role of dressagecoblood :D

The first time I rode her...

We don't own him anymore, but had a super 13.2 sportcob (fab term!) for my stepson. He went to a new home a year ago, but deserves a mention on here..

I would have killed to have been small enough to ride him!

I have an Irish Bog Pony version of the Sports Cob. Does a grand job of hunting, unaff dressage and showjumping, PC rallies and PC showjumping teams, positively loves going to PC camp. THe IBP's favourite hobby though is now hacking and eating. Perfect first horse if the rider can put up with bolshy behaviour and the spooks!

Ahem......, I would like to take credit for this term 'Sports Cob', unless anyone can prove different? lol!! I do have an Irish and a cob sadly they are two different animals!
