Our big ginger thing is having a visit from the vet tomorrow.
Only has three useable legs and a huge swelling over his hip.
Found him in the field unwilling to move, apparently having slipped
on the thawing ice, got him into the barn/stables dragging his injured leg
and gave him bute, he is eating but is far from being ok, dreading the vet tomorrow. Healing vibes please
My PSG dressage horse has been off for 2 years after striking into a tendon with a hind leg... planning on bringing him back into work soon so have fingers crossed he will stay sound this time.
TB mare went lame last year - initially diagnosed with bilateral spavin. In October was diagnosed with navicular and a hind limb proximal suspensory ligament injury.
She has been off work since mid September and may never be ridden again, although she is having the ligament scanned again next week and if the result is ok, then walking work combined with swimming will begin, with a view to her being a hacking horse. If the result isn't good, then she's a bloody good looking field ornament. Fortunately she is a lazy so and so and has adapted very well to being a lady of leisure!
we originally thought it was something wrong with his hocks and he had cortasone (sp?) injections. We where told by the vet that he could only walk in straight lines for 2 weeks and then walking for 25 mins and 5 mins of trotting and some 20 meter circles.
The other day the vet came to check on him again and my instructor rode him for the vet. When she tried to get him to canter he phsically could not do it. The vet then did a nerve block in his suspensory ligament but that did absolutley nothing so she then did a nerve block in his sarioliac (sp?) and it made a slight difference and he was able to canter for a stride. The vet wants to come back later and do bone scans on him
Mine is. Had surgery for tiniest puncture wound to the knee ever. Can ride her in walk now (as she was being crazy on the walker) she should go out next weekend and do another 6 weeks walking and start trotting in 7 weeks.
The vet was talking about loosing her so I couldn't care less about these weeks. I'm just glad she's still here to object about the lack of work or anything interesting!!
Ginger horse is. Severe sdft damage. Unlikely ever to be ridden but is sound (and has been throughout) and is now back out in the field with his buddies during the day as 'normal'. Rescanning end of March so will have a better prognosis then, but as he's 21 and doesn't owe me anything I feel he is going to end up as a big pet
Mystis stifles playing up again shes not ridden so it's not the end of the world but I just feel sick seeing her uncomfortable, she's normally such a sweet, happy little mare (for me anyway )
Both of mine at the moment. Hairy cob has just been MRI'd to find collateral ligament damage, navicular and pedal osteitis, not sure yet what the outlook is for him, but going via conventional treatments it isn't looking good. Then today discovered that my ginger monster has thrown a splint and so is on box rest and cold hosing for the next week or so. Great stuff... not!
One of mine is. Has had long term issues behind, following o from ripping a muscle in her hindquarters as a younster, then got stuck into on an endurance ride by an out of control muppet pleasure rider who rammed into me. Upshot is long term suspensory damage to both back legs, on and off lame for years, if I come home this summer will take her to a different vet. Have owned her for over 9 years and have had maybe 24 months work out of her in total.
O yes. But Nitty is pretty much always injured so it's hardly news. Her hock finally went down just in time for her knee to play up. Big old case of cellulitis before Christmas has left a swelling that I am waiting to go. Nothing really wrong with her and I probably could work her but as I only managed to back her and get a couple of weeks into her before this happened I'd have to restart her so may as well wait for it to go totally /the weather to improve.
Last year she did pretty much nothing as she had surgery on her hock. Useless TB creature
