Noticed alot of broken pony posts recently.. wondered whose were broken and what they had done.

Mine is out of action.. he's pulled his superficial digital flexor tendon and is having some treatment by doctor time.

My horsey is broken :-(
Am devastated, but at least he can potter around the field. He is going to the vet school on thursday and hopefully, they can find a cure.

Mine tore his collateral ligament in his hock and sustained a bone chip fracture as a result, four months ago, he is now retired in a field with my youngster. We will be able to ride him eventually but I am happy to let him be as he has been such a servant to me.

Mine got spooked by a cow on a hack and became tangled in a loose barbed wire fence at the side of the bridleway, panicked, got more stuck, leapt and plunged, fell over, I came off, she was stuck for about another 5 seconds.

Several hundred cuts, she was like a jigsaw, going to be badly blemished when she's better, last cut will take another couple of weeks of bandaging.

Both of mine atm

both for unexplained lameness, luckily pony seems to be recovering, but hossie is going to the horspital next week.

My Mare has been broken for two years now. Long term damage to her tendon. She has had two lovely foals now tho! Although last years foal is becoming rather scarily huge!!!! And this years foal is even bigger at her age than last years was!!

I've got 2 out of three that are in working order!

Small horse is fighting fit, medium horse is fighting fat, big horse has odd sixed front feet and is STILL awaiting his new saddle

*Raises hand... as usual lol*
There is something not right with Gem. Hoping it is back or teeth, which have been booked to be done. Everytime I try to ride her up into a contact she rears and spins, or runs backwards

Mine.
The carcinoma has grown back on her eye (after being given the all clear by the horspital only 6 months ago), and we are waiting for a date to have the eye removed asap.
So she's just playing in the field, with a couple of hacks out a week, waiting.

somthing not quite right with my youngster although had his back and teeth checked and vet has looked at him and pronounced nothing wrong. am waiting for saddler to check that out, if nothing then i'm stumped.
so am riding my old boy now- doesnt know whats hit him.

Ditto, my mare has been broken for two years too and has produced a stunning foal which I hope will be my future riding horse. I am so sad about my mare as I doubt she will ever be rideable due to two/three consecutive injuries in same leg, tendons/ligaments, but I will never part with her and as long as she is happy filling her face (and maybe, just maybe having another foalie) then that is what will happen.

Both of mine are sort of broken.

One has aggravated an old sacroiliac injury and so is now undergoing chiro, vet etc but have been advised to keep riding and lunging him as otherwise he stiffens up.

The other one managed to get out of his stable one night, get into the mare's next door and they spent hours kicking each other (dont think anything else went on). He has a capped hock and managed to twist and pull every muscle in his back so has been off work for 6 weeks, had numerous electric wave treatments and now I have to start bringing him back into work which is going to be interesting as he is difficult to ride if he has 3 days off in a row!

raising a hand here.

My eldest came in from the winter paddock lame on the 27 April. After almost a month off on box rest he was still unsound with suspected jarring (possibly to his feet as he had hot feet). He was turned away at the beginning of June for field rehab. He is field sound without shoes and we are leaving him for another month or so before we bring him back in to shoe and reassess.

My mare has been off work ... her performance hasnt been right for a while....got new saddle (it wasnt fitting) had teeth done (she needed it...after 5months!) still not right.....thought it was bone spavins....injected hocks with Cortesone still not better....now getting spine xrayed....if thats clear then vet thinks its a sacroiliac injury.....i just have a feeling that its been like this for years and she has just been sold on.....but i guess il never know! just got to get her sorted!

CB Anglo....if she has an old sacroiliac injury how would it effect her dressage? will she get better? the vet is on about stabbing her with a footlong needle into the joint?!

Sigh - yes mine's broken, she's been off work since November with an impact injury to her annular ligament and her superificial digital flexor tendon.

She is off for her 4th scan on 5th August and am tentatively hopeful for some good news.

Mines been broken for almost two years, high and low ringbone in both pasterns and an arthritic hock.

Shes happy plodding around her field :-)

This is a big club ! mines had surgery for spavins and has thrown a splint .He stood on a 4 inch nail last month and has done ligament and tendon in last two years.Im hoping I can start work next week but his back seems sore.I am now booking mc timoni back lady as hes protesting when I put his saddle he has a very grumpy face and is pulling up his back legs.Probably related to spavins now he is working differently.

I know it shouldn't and I wouldn't wish anyone to have a broken horse, but it does in a weird way make me feel a bit better knowing others are in the same position. Not quite so lonely!

doublethyme I wonder how many of us found hh looking for answers on our broken neds.Does help when you find others in the same positition moral support group therapy lol

Dont mean to hijack but in response to Holly_P's question.

Your vet should be able to tell quite quickly if it is sacroiliac injury by doing a high limb flexion.

I have had mine almost 2 years - he was rescued from a field in Kent so not vetted. Only brought back work properly (after a few false starts as he was broken a few times last year) in October 2007 and was lunged and ridden - you cannot tell he was unlevel but then he was like a plank of wood. I only noticed a difference after spending the last 6 months suppling him and getting him more balanced. Have felt that he was stiff and resistant/leans on the right rein (the bad side) although he was happy to do basic laterals. When schooling in hand I noticed the stifle on the right side seemed to be clicking.

Two weeks ago vet diagnosed sacroiliac injury on a high flexion test and being 1/10th lame, could make it 2/10ths lame if held longer than a minute.

Vet says that what level he is performing at is the best he will ever be. His walk and trot work are good, but he can skip behind and become disunited in canter on the bad side. However, I have only been working on canter for the last 6 weeks and I have noticed a vast improvement in that time so I think there is still room for further improvement. Not sure what level he will actually get to, but I know Dressage Babe says her horse with SI works medium at home but obviously could not compete as wont truly be able to work correctly.

however, his injury is to the ligament and was caused by being overjumped as a baby (he is an ex-sj) and the vet says that it is very old and he has probably had it his entire ridden life as he has found a way to compensate very well hence why he doesnt appear to be unlevel when ridden unless heavy going or pushed too hard too many days in a row. There will always be a level of pain but he has learnt to operate within it, and he has said I shouldnt bute but to keep him in work as otherwise he will be stiff. I am also getting chiro to work on him next week (waiting for a good one) and have also put him on a joint supplement to help the other compensating joints.

I have posted in vet section and lots of people had some really good advice.

Is your horse difficult to shoe behind by any chance? Is she level behind?

Bought my Thoroughbred ex-racer in Dec

In march she was kicked in the face and needed stitches

2 weeks later she jumped though a barbed wire fence because her pony friend had escaped the field and she couldn't find the gap- 5 week off

After 3 weeks of work i noticed her back was sore- Spinal therapist out and brand new saddle fitted

+ now after another 3 weeks in work, she suddenly has really sore feet and is lame.

I'm very sad and very skint

Oh DaisyMae - feel so sorry for you! Something to cheer you up. Got ex racehorse end May. He got kicked 2nd day and was off for about 3 weeks, he then got bad mud fever from pawing the riverbed and caused bad leg to get even worse. His leg was so sore he looked as though he had stringhalt!! So much first aid work to be done every day with very little thanks from the horse!! Thankfully no chipped bone which the vet suggested first visit. Started riding again. Had to have saddler & vet out twice more. Then he bit the end of my finger off last Tuesday and I'm not supposed to be riding. Have done since Sunday but its going to be a long time before finger grows back!! He's still not right either and am flumoxed as to why. Am thinking teeth now but they should be fine because he's already been done a month ago. Hmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!

Oh dear, sounds like your really having a bad time of it aswel. Why don't you just have his teeth removed and then he can't bite off any more of your fingers.

Feel free to PM me anytime if you need to talk to someone else who was daft enough to buy a Thoroughbred

Some people near my yard got an ex-racehorse the same time as me, they took it back a few weeks ago and swapped it for a huge cob! said that they were always wondering what it was gonna do to itself next, i know that feeling all too well. The problem is that i adore her and shes so talented aswel(when shes rideable)

Tell me about it. Bought SI injury horse in November 2006 (didnt know he had SI). In very poor condition so 2 months to put on weight/grow feet. Ridden 2 weeks in walk. Jumps fence and gashes leg. 3 weeks off work. Ridden 3 weeks in walk building in trot. Freezemark injury = 6 months as expensive pet. Bring back into work 3 weeks getting up to 10 mins trot. Rider injury = 4 weeks off work. Finally get to start riding in October 2007 (almost a year later). Two months later has overreach and severe mudfever = 2 weeks off work. 4 months later find out has old SI injury dispelling all Olympic Games dreams. He is so lucky that I am a sucker for a pretty face.

Been to Ted and he back on more bute.. stiff and v short againt his morning !

Anglo was put down last week because of chronic problems with his spine. He'd been off work for about 18 months. Welsh mare developed recurrent uveitis last winter, had it under control with drops, she then got laminitis 4 weeks ago, the uveitis decided it didn't want to be bossed about by the eye drops and is now all over the shop, and last sat she picked up a nasty case of conjunctivitis. It's really bad of me, but I just want that eye out
