My rising 5 year old who has lived at the same yard since weaned off mom constantly snorts at things all the time.

He walks past the same haylage bales and rollers every day for the last 4 years and yet still he looks at them like they are some sabre toothed tiger who is ready to get him.

Just wondered if yours do the same. He has a lot of blood in him and is 17.2hh but always thinks everything is going to get him. Whether it be a drain, a dog, far, machinery.

He is only being walked at the moment on vets advice as just been diagnosed with DJD in both hocks after being away being backed/produced for 8 months, but still the same when working. Is the same whether I am riding him or leading him. I just walk along very relaxed
and he goes along snorting at everything!

When galloping around the field like a loon, she will do a great whale impersonation, sometimes when I'm leading her, I get that very gentle 'snort' that bugs me, because I don't know what has caught her eye.....but when I am riding, we don't get snorts, we get grunts like a pig! It's when shes chilled and mooching along, passers by look at use a bit oddly though....

~grunt grunt.....gruntgruntgrunt~

:D

My mare snorts at everthing! and she's 17 now! She's also a cob and has large nostrils so whenever she lets out a big breath it makes a 'snort' kind of noise! lol I guess some horses are just prone to it. x

Ha I thought he would grow out of it. Makes me laugh as shimmies past everything with big wild eyes snorting at everything on a daily basis.

Even does it when been out all night and coming in for brekkie in the morning, most of them are dozy at 7am, not my snorting wild beastie

You are not the only one, as you know Bailey (Gemma kindly brings him in for me every morning from the field) snorts at everything and seems to think that I am going to give him away as a sacrifice to the monsters that lurk down the country lanes every time we hack out.

My horse is 14 and absolutely has no excuse. It upsets me sometimes because I feel he doesn't have much confidence in me as 'a leader', for if he did he wouldn't act like a t*t every five minutes.

And it irritates me that he will snort at a show jump pole on the ground or a wing left abandoned in the centre of the menage when he spends most of his life jumping said obstacles (well not wings obviously)! LOL

But when it gets too much for me to bear I often find that a quick way of resolving the problem is a swift flick of my schooling whip. Things quieten down after that and we can start to concentrate on work.

Mine, she's a right noisy madam! She is totally unspooky but snorts at everything! Everytime we bring her out of the stable she looks about and snorts!

Although my boy doesn't necessarily snort, he "Eye balls" everything!! From leaves, to trees, to cows, to cars... to the evil blades of grass that are going to eat his legs!! Oh dear!! :)

Lol my mare is 6 and lived at the same yard since birth, does the same hacks and still snorts at things, it's not that she's scared she doesn't spook just lifts her head in the air and let's out a huge snort, not very funny when I've stopped to talk to someone and she does it in their face ( well they don't find it funny but I do, just a little)

That sounds exactly like Dolly! She is 18 now, so I don't think she will grow out of it.

If my pony doesn't snort at it then she's looking at it like it's going to eat her. The same walk to and from the field each day - "OMG car." "OMG barn." "ARGHH fence" "HELP THERE'S A BUSH!" She's such a muppet lol :D

Another serial snorter here - 16 years old, big strapping TBxID mare (another Dolly, TheresaW :)), sees wolves and hedge monsters down every lane, behind every wheelie bin and in thin air too! Honestly, it's like riding a dragon sometimes!

Mine, mine, mine!!! Snorts really loudly at EVERYTHING! The worst is the trampy woman who lives in the hut down the lane, my mare walks past her giving her a really wide berth snorting like an idiot! It's so embarrassing! But I love her snorts at...dustbins, recycling bins, gateways, cones, people, pigs etc! They really make me giggle! I love her to bits!

mine snort to everything for fun esp big lad ( baby as had such hard life but so calm) but we have to ask why we love them -they are not machines and be honest would you want them as a machine or the animal they are ? :)

mine! she's fab and doesn't bat an eyelid at traffic (hope I haven't jinxed us there) but we went past a jeep with some wood in the back of it a couple of days ago - cue what I call her 'snorty warhorse' impression. happens at the most ridiculous of things. you wouldn't think she's a hardy cob!

My mare is a snorter too. She is quite highly strung and excitable. She snorts all the way to the field in the morning whilst jogging on the spot. It seems to be a mission of hers to find something/anything to be scared of whilst in the arena, and will snort like mad, growing a good couple of inches at the same time. She usually only does it when she's excited or scared generally.
