ive had an advert for a while offering free long term use of my welsh A, riding ect...... NO chores whatsoever unless they wish to & no contribution. just the riding bit, advert clearly states that wew have taken him back to basics as he bucks/rears when people mount or ride him so NOT NOVICE RIDE. small adults only.

but all i keep getting is either "my mum says i can come & ride your pony" or " my daughter will ride your pony" & when i enquire further they have no rider insurance cos they wont fall off! (stipulated in ad), been riding for a few months (NOT NOVICE RIDE!!) or the worst was shes never sat on one yet but the more you fall off the better rider you are, right! (ER NO!)

the only good one just stopped turning up after 3 weeks & when i finally got hold of her by seeing her riding on local road she said "oh sorry, ive brough my own now!"


ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry rant over.
why are sharers/riders so hard to find? id have jumped at the chance if i couldnt afford the boy.

There's not many adults that will want to ride a small pony, and even less teenagers who will probably feel silly on something so small; so you are bound to get people asking if their kids can ride him. Some non-horsey parents are very blinkered and seem to think that because their kid can stay on a riding school pony that's on autopilot for half hour a week, their kid is halfway to being Pippa Funnel.

Why not advertise for someone to break him to cart? As a project? You may get more joy then.
 
Have the same issue with our section b, not helped by the fact he lives on a farm with no facilities (so it's all hacking and schooling in fields) and also very often no one else to ride out with. It's funny how many parents are quite happy to leave their 11 yo girl alone in such a place with a pony she doesn't really know (that's why we stopped the last one, too much of a liability)

We were so careful to explain the set up-ie someone responsible to accompany rider at all times at least until they were very sure of pony-which is what we did with my daughter) make sure they had rider insurance, competent on the ground as well as in saddle (a few really were not, they could ride well enough but not catch, groom or tack up)
 
i have put him to shafts as i cannot ride now but he is our daughters pony & she loves him to peices.
we have access to school/off road hacking/quiet roads & onsite instructor & i wouldnt mind competant younger riders. he is a strong little thing & was my dear friend Angua2 not so far away the issue would be a lot quicker to resolve (or me beng able to hop on & sit him out!) he loves to please too.
