I do want alot for my money but apparently its a buyers market but not for me!

It is not a buyers market! I am in the market too but for a loan horse and have been for about two years!!! Crazy really, you've got a gorgeous loving caring knowledgable home on offer and no horse to fill it!!! Hang on in there x x x

Same problem. I have suggested to OH that we take a nice long weekend up north for the bank holiday. Not sure if he knows what it will entail though

Don't rely on the internet to find a horse. Before advertising on the net people found the horses they wanted within a few miles of home. I decided that I wasn't going to drive any further that 50 miles to see a horse & I eventually found mine just over 30 miles away. He was very low mileage & needed work but now he's popping 1.30m for fun & has even more to give. The internet encourages you to go alot further than you need to, go by word of mouth & local adverts & local dealers & you'll save all the traveling & still have a fantastic horse.

I felt like that last year when horse shopping. The only way to avoid it was to simply ignore anything that wasn't within two hours travelling.

The one for you will be round the corner - look at all local adverts, even your free ads......

I Travelled 3 hours to see my horse, which I bought.

To be quite honest if it is the right one it is worth travelling.

What is 3 or 4 hours travelling if you find the horse for you and its going to be a long term partenership

What age are you looking for?

I done a 16hr round trip in one day to see my TB mare, had to leave at 2am and it was when there was all the heavy rain and flooding. Previous to that done a 7hr+ round trip to see my QH mare and then a 3hr+ round trip 3x in total before getting my TB gelding (2x was when a friend was viewing him, i just tagged along).

I guess if you get the "wow" from that horse then distance is no object! Good Luck with your search!

I had this problem - but all the good horses seem to be down south. Whenever I tried looking on any popular horse website and i'd just find 2 shetlands and a broodmare in Scotland! No showjumpers

I'd always find my perfect horse, then would find it was in Kent. And as it was my parents doing the driving, they weren't keen to drive any further than about 2 hours. I ended up finding my horse 10 mins down the road at my old riding school!

We are in Lincolnshire and haven't seen anything interesting yet! What are you on the lookout for?

You may not have all the horses, but you have all the older, yet lightweight (or single horse) trailers that in in my (very limited!) budget!!

Everything I've seen that fits my criteria is down south!

Good luck with the hunting, I'm a firm believer in fate and what's for you won't go by you. It's just it might not appear as quick as you'd like or in the manner you imagine!

I think prices definitely seem higher down in the South East. When we were looking for a pony for my daughter we ended up travelling quite a way to get one that we could afford. Lots of good ponies down here, but with very big price-tags!

I live in Cheshire and the woman who bought my mare was from Somerset!!! She couldn't find anything and had to travel up to Cheshire to see her, luckily she was the right horse for her and she bought her.
My old pony lives 3 miles down the road and I see him regularly. I sold him via the riding club and word of mouth, so keep going on that front, the internet isnt everything!
My new horse, who is an absolute diamond, was bought from someone 40 miles away. I couldnt find anything for ages, but he was well worth the wait. Dont give up and good luck!

I travelled four hours to see a horse, got there and it was lame, windsucked and NOT the same horse in the photo.
Then found my horse ten minutes down the road (the coloured) However, it's defintely worth travelling for the right one, and if you make a weekend of it like you say at least you will come home with a better insight into what does and doesn't suit you (I was surprised!)

My horse was imported, but brought unseen. a friend of mine travelled all over the country looking at suitable horses (most of which weren't as described) and finally brought one that was over a four hour drive away.

I searched all across the country for 6 months until OH put his foot down. I then concentrated my search on immediately next door counties. I'm in Dorset and I found my horse in Hampshire. Just took a little while.

having the same problem, i have driven miles so far, and i go round the the local tack shops all the time and i have my YO pestering everyone she knows locally, yet i only seem to notice horses up North or other side of London.

That is how I learnt my counties scrawling through H&H ''mum how far is ****shire?''...I soon learned my Dads limits!!

Them were the days!

Well I'm about in the middle so if anyone's looking for a little competition horse in the making I've got one! She's only 15.2, 6yo, grey AA mare, big jump, very straight and correct and with good movement, been much admired in the few dressage tests she's done, third in her first ODE at 2'9". Has done PC camp and been to the beach and hacks out alone or in company and is good in heavy traffic, box, farrier etc. Would event, show or make pure dressage horse (albeit a small one!). Significant % Crabbet blood - for those interested in their Arab bloodlines.
