My Welsh has learnt to open my top door of the feed room (its a stable-type door). So 2 nights this week he's managed to lean through and grab whatever he can - luckily its just been empty bags (which he's then strewn around the yard in disgust). So I began tying the doors with baler twine to try and stop him.

Well, went over to give them breakfast this morning to find 2 of them up to their knees in feed standing outside the feed room door, doors wide open! You should have seen the guilty looks on their faces. Feed bins were strewn everywhere - 5 of them with now-bent metal lids.... supplement containers everywhere etc. etc. You can imagine the scene, total devastation! So worked out they'd eaten 1/2 a bin of DRY SUGAR BEET (OMG), an entire bag of Safe & Sound, about 2/3 bin of oats and 1/4 bag of alfalfa. This is between 2 horses, luckily my lami pony I dont think came near as he'd get told to bugger off.

So the vets been warned we may be calling them today, Ive given them epsom salts and had to take away their water (vet said, due to the dry beet). Had a lesson today which I had to cancel for the 2nd time as obviously cant ride them. So am spending the day rushing back and forth checking on them. Why are horses do damn stupid?! Do they not know this is very dangerous?! The feed room door has just had a very large bolt put on it as well as another hook closure....... I honestly dont know how he undid the doors though, the bottom door has a huge bolt on it - it was still in the lock position but open, HTF does that happen?!

I hope your ponies are ok....perhaps you need to up your security level to red, and employ a few security guards?

, i've forgotton how much "fun" welshies are!!

If they're like my current horse, a saddle over the tack room door will ensure that they do not go in that direction!

They're prob discussing it amongst themselves... "silly humans, thinking a few bolts and baler twine can stop us!"

They're fine

One has been a bit sleepy and lethargic all day (full of food....) and the other has been hyper (full of oats and sugar!), but both have shown nothing abnormal thank god.

SAMgirl - he he, you see I couldnt leave a saddle over the tack room door. Last time I did that my Welsh chewed chunks out of it....... (£750 saddle too!). They are funny arent they?!
