....................so uncharitable/bitchy/stand offish etc, etc when the horse of your dreams does really, really well the first time he's shown!
Markie has been with me for 6 weeks now and he is totally fabulous. Just a reminder, he's 19 and been out of work for a year owing to his previous owner's poor health, not his.
Last Sunday was our 'hunt' show, quite often used as a 'warm up' for our County Show (this Sunday). I couldn't go as I was travelling back from Tunisia (lovely weather, now sporting a bit of a tan!), so, a girl from the yard showed him in the veteren class, he won, and the heavyweight class, 2nd to a rather nice, young ID. My friends made sure they videoed and took loads of piccies. However, some of the other people from the yard went, took photos etc but have pointedly not said well done, shared photos or anything. Is it wrong to feel a little hurt as I class these people as friends and have always supported them at shows, taking photos, holding horses, running into the ring with a damp sponge, mopping up tears etc etc. I realise it's a bit of the green eyed monster syndrome, but a simple 'well done' just to the girl that rode him would have been nice!
Anyway, onwards and upwards, he'll go to 2 more shows for this year, then go back to being a pampered, hefty pet!
Gratutious, ridden picture for the fans of tank built horses!

(Feel free to say well done!)

Its not just horsey people its everywhere you just notice it as your in that group. For example the people in the office I work in are really terrible (male and female) they continually talk about people.

Lovely horsey btw.

Very well done. I have been on the recieving end of that sort of attitude too - do well in a dressage test and its because "all the other competitors were numpties" or on seeing new horse of my dreams, being asked only what it cost and not saying anything nice!

Gosh, well done he looks fabulous. Look at that tail - a real floor sweeping trophy tail!
People are odd - ignore them :)

well done! :D

my parents aren't horsey and they always say every horse person they meet is a bit odd (including me :p ) and I think they're totally right.

Lots of horsey people do seem to be too competitive and find it hard to enjoy others success.....I had my first experience of this when on livery and my sweet little mare project horse won an unaffiliated showjumping class. It was totally unexpected and more through luck than anything else, she was having a very fast day! All the liveries whose horses cost around £10K ish and competed in much grander events could hardly look at me never mind speak to me for about a month! It took me a few days to understand what was going on, I thought I had offended them in some way.....mad!

Take no notice and just enjoy your success and your beautiful horse, with 2 more shows coming up they better get used to it!

gorgeous chap ! love the hefty pet reference !! people are a nightmare in general but i do think us horse owners are worse than others - maybe its the amount of time and money that we put into our horses that makes some people believe no other horse is better than theirs.

Def a case of the green eyed monster - many people as well only compliment the typical hunter or tbs and cant see the beauty of other breeds.

Good luck at the next one x

Well done Markie and gosh his tail is amazing. What a handsome chap.

I have had exactly the same - my supposed BF at the time got jealous would you believe it of my then 13 year old daughter winning several classes at a charity show. She wasn't even competing!

Well done with your new horse, he looks very smart. Re people, welcome to the real world, it takes all sorts, the good, the bad & the just plain evil. It's not horsey people it's just PEOPLE. Rise above it, know you have done well without anybody to tell you so. There are some lovely, genuine people out there so don't think everyone is the same. Remember, though, when you see someone do well give praise where it's due even if you don't like them. Quid pro quo.

Well done, looks beautifully turned out, pity your head was chopped off though :D but you can see how lovely you both must of looked.:)

Ive met some real nobbers since getting back into horses, but i meet right nobbers every day.
I do think there seems to be a higher density of colon inspectors in the horsey world though.

Well done to markie, hes gorgeous.

Ooooh! Can I have your horse? He looks wonderful. Well done to you all!!!

I've been on the receiving end of competitive liveries, who assumed I knew nothing about horses as I don't give a toss about competing. Odd lot.

In a really nice yard now, with lots of lovely people who don't care whether you compete or not. There are some non-bitchy types out there.

Just put it down to jealousy-they're probably showing the photos of your horse to all their friends to show them just how wonderful 'their' horse is. ;o)

Well done, he looks beautiful!

I'm sorry that you're on a yard surrounded by such jealous people. I'm lucky to be on a small yard where everyone looks out for each other. I think when a lot of women get together (from any walk of life, not just horsey ones) they can't seem to help but get bitchy. It's like a load of overcrowded battery chickens who need to peck at each other!

Take no notice of them, you just be proud of your lovely horse, you have every right to be!

Well done, he's scrummy!!!

I know I've been on the receiving end myself, bit echoing what people have said I don't think it's just horsey folk... I think it's human nature... What a nice thought.

Your horse is lovely!!

Unfortunately I do believe that there seems to be several green eyed monsters lurking about at your yard. It's a shame people are like that.

But, along with many other posters :D WELL DONE!!!

nowt as queer a folk lol, ;) tis the same in anything tho i think not just horses, the dog world is just as bad if not worse:rolleyes:
oh and very well done, he is stunning:D

Thanks for all of your lovely comments! Markie is such a lovely chap, I'm really lucky to have found him.
I expected green eyes from 'strangers' but not from people that know what I've been through 'horsewise' in the past year. I'm not really that competitive, been there, done it and got the t shirt in my youth, but I'm now determined that Markie will beat them in every class!!

My partner hates coming to shows or anything horsey with me (hence why I have a 9 month old daughter-in training to come instead now!!), he can't stand how much up their own ar**s most of them are!

He looks gorgeous! Well done! Ignore the green eyed monster, sadly not all people are as gracious as they should be! Keep up the good work and enjoy! x :D

Well done, and what a stunning horse! but I know what you mean, I used to get the same at a yard I was at in the UK buy a few people.. I would come back from a show with my appy mare (who is now here Spain with me) and some would ask how we had done and ask to see the rosettes, but a certain person there, would just turn away, she was the same with anyone who went to a show, not just me... I think it was the green eyed monster.. as she could not do anything with her gelding.. and she was a riding instructer.. she would not even canter him until something like April?!?!... why ive no idea,
