Why are people so unkind?

I have no problem with people giving their horse bute on a regular basis on a vet's recommendation to keep them in work. In fact my mare was on one Danilon every other day for the last three years of her life.

However bute is a banned substance in the main affiliated (BS, BD and BE) events. A lot of unaffiliated competitions will have in their schedule that they are being run in accordance with the relevant affiliated body so competing on bute (to be safe withdrawal period is two weeks) is cheating.

Applecart, could you not either compete HC or hire a local venue in your area with some friends and school over their jumps if you feel Bailey is happiest jumping away from home?

All competition rules will state that you can't compete on bute.

If the horse can't do it without he shouldn't be doing it with, he could do himself some damage - if he doesn't feel pain there he may make the problem worse. Im supprised your vet advised competing on 2 bute and even more supprised at the reaction you got on this thread.

Having said that I do not know the horse or person so dont take any notice of me

^^^^^^this

When my old horse was diagnosed with a bone spavin, the one thing my vet advised against was jumping.

It is against the rules to compete on bute, and people DO get tested, one girl (doing a Novice class at Addington) had her horse test positive and guess what - she was banned from competition. It is not a stupid rule, if your horse is not capable of competing without 2 bute then it is unfair to ask that of him.

I would also dispute the fact that half the horses in the country are on bute.

That said, there is no excuse for nastyness but perhaps the other livery is genuinely concerned for your horse's welfare and just isn't very subtle about how she phrases things?
