Why are riding clubs so unfriendly?

There are two around here and both are bitchy, cliquey and snobby and Ive been going to them for years (altho having an enforced break at the moment). I think when I get going Im going to affiliate.

Which area are you in? I haven't really made my minds up about the ones around here yet - I am going to join a riding club, but I don't really do enough to warrant it
