Here is one if my link has worked?

We are this week seriously looking to get a 3.5 ton and this one looks perfect and far better than anything more local we've looked at. With such a cheaper price tag we can easily drive the extra distance but don't want a long wasted journey and have been the attempted victim of a scam already!

There are a few cheaper than we would expect.

IMO that is too cheap. Smells like a scam. I wouldn't be surprised if they give you a sob story about it having to be sold quick due to divorce/bereavement. There will also be some reason why it can't be viewed. However they will deliver the horsebox to you & your money will be held Ina safe 'holding' account until you are happy with your purchase.....obviously this isn't the case you will not receive the Horsebox & your money will never be seen again.

If you want someone to see the box in the flesh & it's too far for you, I'm near Cambridgez

Oh drat! I figured maybe as much but then we wondered if its a cheaper area or something!
I may give them a call and see whats said then. That's a similar scam to the last one I called! Luckily im quite sensible and would never buy un-viewed so didn't fall for it ;)

You have nothing to lose giving them a call. At least you've got your eyes open & won't fall for a scam!
Let us know how you get on...who knows you might just be getting the bargain of the century but as a reference point I bought an ancient (M reg) VW LT35 3.5 ton with a small payload - enough for me & he cost just short of £6,000 a few years ago, that's what rings alarm bells. I would've thought the box in this ad was worth £20-22,000

It states insurance Cat C in advert. This means it has been involved in an accident and is deemed a write-off as more expensive to repair than value of vehicle.
I doubt it looks like the pictures supplied.

That's interesting I missed the cat C thing.
I wonder if they are selling it still damaged? The ad doesn't read that way does it?

If it has been repaired I would want it checking over with the finest toothed comb known to man! It would also be interesting to know what would happen insurance wise with it

My brother has had 3 Cat c cars BTW. He's a mechanic & fixes them up in his spare time. He says that quite often it's man hour cost that pushes a vehicle into write off. He's always managed to insure them ok as well afterwards.

Ah now I hadn't noticed that bit either! I think we have seen a few ads like this so am going to have a trawl back through and see if it's the same seller which may mean he fixes up as a business?
Either way we have a good friend who's a mechanic so will get it checked. Thanks all x

Unsure if it was this one or one of the other weirdly cheap boxes but just got a email from a Friday ad advertiser- bless her husbands just died but she can give me the link to a private eBay auction!!!
Another I found is using fake pictures so probably the same scam. The real lorry in the photos is on eBay for 23k
Lorry shopping is stressful enough without all these weirdo's

Bloomin' eck this Horsebox scam is getting pretty rife isn't it?
Good job you know what to avoid now! I just hope no one else gets suckered in :(

The ads I called are now removed from the site I think. I have however emailed Friday ads and forwarded the reply I had. We also called the person legit selling one of the lorries and told him his advert had been copied so he was looking into things also.

I got the same reply from one I emailed about and when I said I really wanted to view and that I would pay cash, the reply was I wont take cash as someone tried to pay me for it with fake notes last week, sorry but what normal person refuses cash unless its a scam.

I had the same when I was looking. Found an ad for a lovely horsebox in Maidstone that was advertised at about 1/4 of its value. Contacted them by phone, couldn't get through by phone so emailed. Meanwhile I googled the description and found an expired ebay auction for the same vehicle. So I contacted the eBay seller who confirmed it had sold the previous week for the kind of price you would expect, and age was in Scotland!

Meanwhile the 'seller' I had contacted emailed me back and had the scam as stated above (he had split from his wife, was working on oil rigs, would send me vehicle for upfront payment and I could have on trial for a couple of weeks). For my own amusement I pretended to be interested and we kept up email conversations over the course of an evening. He obviously cut and pasted his scams as at one point he started referring to a bike!

He even made up a fake ebay service to give me buyer protection and confidence, so that I would send a bank transfer via the (fake) ebay listing he had set up for me. It all looked very authentic but I knew it was fake as there was no such item number on eBay (or indeed no such service they offer!).

I ended our conversations to say that I had just received an email from a Nigerian millionaire who wanted to send me £10000s to hold some money for him, and as my horsebox budget had now significantly increased, I would be looking to buy an Oakley Supreme instead.

I hope no one ever falls for these scammers.
