Thanks to everyone who made comments on the "should owners pass a test before they own a horse".
One clear thing which came of this thread was the amount of bad instructors out on the market.
I would have to say the bad ones i have found are usually unqualified or BHSAI or lower, not all of them just some of them. In my experience I havent found it to be in the case of BHSII or BHS1 at this level they do seem to know what they are doing.
Also the older instructors who have been teaching for years also seem to be far better than the youngsters starting today.
It would be interesting to find out where the problem is coming from as the BHS system has not changed much over the last 20 years but the quality of instructors has.
I am in very close contact with several BHS examiners and they say that the quality of candidates has dropped considerably over the last 5 years. I think its because people are going to unqualified trainers as there is no regulation to stop people teaching who hold no formal qualifications.
