Why bother?

Animals dot have voices... They rely on us to speak for them. If you get kicked off so be it I'm sure there are others near you, it cannot be that nice of a yard if YO isn't there ? Maintence wise.

Why bother having a horse if you don't see to it/ provide adequate veterinary treatment? Lady on yard has a crippled oldie, claims he has mild arthritis and does nothing to treat it. Farrier came yesterday and couldn't shoe him he was in so much pain and didn't want to weightbear on other legs. He rung the owner and told him and I've just seen her now and she's ranting that the farrier is forever misdiagnosing other people's horse and that she has spoke to the vet and 'he is fine'. (not sure how vet knows this as he never comes out, she never gets him jabbed/ teeth done/ back checked) Can I just add when this horse had sarcoids she left them for so long they grew to fist sized blood dripping lumps on his sheath. Absolutely disgusting, why do some people have horses.

Sorry i couldnt hack watching this, ive an oldie who's arthritic and ive just had to up her danilon to 2 a day due to the hard ground or she'd be very sore.
Speak to the yo and ask them to deal with it, of no joy in a day or so
Speak to the owner and tell them of they dont get the horse seen by the vet asap that you'll call WHW as this is a welfare case, poor bleddy horse

Well on the positive side, at least they get a farrier. IIWY I would do nothing, since you say it will cause problems for you, and the owner is clearly finding it an issue that the horse's feet haven't been done so will be trying to solve that issue. It might be that the problem gets dealt with in a roundabout way without you having to be involved. If you're no further along in a couple of weeks or the horse is distressed and obviously uncomfortable at rest, I don't think you can just ignore that, maybe report it but be having a browse around for alternative livery in the mean time?

If there is then please, I beg you to tell me because I've been looking for months. Nope it's not great but then you get what you pay for don't you, could not be on a massive yard due to one of our horses.

Such a difficult situation but having seen so many poor miserable souls when i worked forHAPPA i find it easy to speak up. and i have on my yarrd now twice and i will again. even had a fork threatened at me when i started to ring . If more people took time to look and think as thier horse does this kind of cruelty wouldnt happen. they are voiceless without us x

I've tried speaking to her to be met with aggression and denial. At the end of the day, Im not sure what can be done? WHW or bhs welfare team will see the horse has food and water so they're not going to seize it. Just upsetting that some people love their horses as much as others.

WHW and BHS don't seize any horse.

On another note, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering under the animal welfare act, and also it is an offence to fail to provide an animal's needs as is reasonable in all the circumstances. So yes, there is plenty to be done, IF a vet provides a statement to confirm that in their opinion the horse is suffering, and/or it's needs are not being provided.

You could lie and say you had a vet out to one of yours, and while they were there the vet noticed the state of the poorly horse and commented on it and so they could have called the welfare people out?

JFTD, for a couple of days I felt like crap and I really felt I should have minded my own business. But then I put my big girl panties on and knew it was the best thing for the dogs. They are so much happier. So at the end of it all I'm glad I ranted to my landlord. That morning I walked by the dog shed and nearly passed out from the smell. That just wasn't right. So I called my landlord. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Terri

Well, I'd say it's a testament to your good nature that you actually considered the possibility that you might have been in the wrong - but an even better testament that you did it in the first place, and the dogs are better off for it. The more folk like you around, the better - no matter what the daft cow said to you, she clearly realised you have a point or she wouldn't have bucked up now!
