I brought my new youngster home on Saturday

First I had one livery saying hes a "strong beast" "big animal" and saying that "youll have a hard time with him" to which I said Ill be fine and he said "you wanna bet?"
he just kept throwing stupid comments in

Then yesterday, I get to the yard, a rumour has started that he kicked me, he DIDNT! And they all fell out and argued about him, when I wasnt even there to defend him, and they dont know him!!!

This morning I asked for the other side of the story, found out that one of them thinks he is going to kill me, he wont, they dont know him, theyve not seen him do any more then walk from stable to field and back.
And then another screaming row this morning between them about who said what

Its just ridiculous and its making me miserable :( Have been crying this morning, just wish theyd leave me and my new lad alone :(

They are probably just jealous. Schadenfreude (taking pleasure from the suffering of others) is unfortunately one quality in abundance in the equestrian community.
Just keep your head down and get on with looking after your 'big beast' - once they all realise there's nothing to see there, they'll turn their attention to someone else.

Is that him in your siggie?

Just ignore people.

People always have an opinion - and sometimes it's not one you want to hear.

I'm guessing the yard is full of teenagers.....

It's always the same when someone gets a new horse. Mainly jealousy and a desire to gossip. We have had the same with every single horse we have had.. YO is always convinced they are sooo bad that they will creep upstairs and murder us in our beds if we don't 'sort them out before they use their strength against us'

Walk away and let them gossip and argue until they find a new victim.

No flicker, the one in my siggie is my Roo, shes been on the yard since March and they did the same then as well :(

This is my new boy

Thanks guys, Im sure it will get better :) Its just hurtful until they stop

Ignore them!
I have a "strong beast", and a "big animal", and yes he's a powerful looking sod, but he listens when I ask him to. I took my boy in hand showing for the first time in April and he was dancing and prancing, snorting and swinging about at first, looking at all the scary banners, flags, horses cantering past etc etc. I took him to the in hand collecting ring and stood with a slack lead rein letting him have a look round. Some idiot rode into the in hand collecting ring and proceeded to canter round and round, scattering the youngsters waiting for the youngstock class, and my boy reared up in the excitement (he is a solid 16hh, so quite tall). All the spectators gasped and I heard someone saying "that animal is out of control" blah blah blah. I stood calmly on the end of the lead rein as he came back to earth, gave him a little tug and he said 'yes Mum?', and followed me like a lamb for our class. We went on to come 3rd out of a huge class, and yes he may have looked "out of control", but I know my boy, and I know I can let him prance like a loon but the lead rein will stay slack because he is well mannered enough to stick by me and will listen when I tell him to calm down.
Have fun with your new baby, he might test you at first but its part and parcel of having a blank canvas to develop the way you want. For me it was taking a shy, timid little scruff bag who wouldn't let me touch him anywhere other than his shoulder, and turning him into a strapping, brave, inquisitive and bold, but respectful and well mannered, young man. I'm swelling with pride as I write this! Lol.
I think the best course of action in your case, if anyone tries to start an argument, is to agree to disagree with them, and then continue to prove them wrong! Calmly continue day to day with your lovely baby, and they will soon see how silly they look. To be honest, its a cliche, but they are probably just jealous of your fab new horse!

Look at that beautiful face, he looks ready to kill, def a dangerous looking sort :p

No as others have said ignore them, they clearly have nothing better to do with their time. Good luck with him & keep us poste don his progress he is lovely :)

This is one of the things about livery yards, even nice ones, is that everyone has their opinion and embellishment happens among any group of people, a statement like "that horse will probably kick her" can quickly turn to "that horse kicked her brain in" without anyone meaning to be untruthful or mean. Just enjoy your new boy and do your thing and let them flap, they'll soon move on to something else.

One of our fellow liveries is nice enough but extremely confident in their horsey knowledge (if you can see what i am saying) if we do something they consider "soft" they'll stand there almost with hands on hips laughing at us and asking "why are you doing x" and then dismissing the answer. I know they think we're noobs, that's fine with me, I could do the same back on many counts to them but it's not worth it to me, I don't care enough and I want peace to enjoy our horse in :D

I laughed when I saw his photo..initially thinking what had you bought to warrant the comments! He is gorgeous and looks an absolute sweetie......might be wrong but cant see you needing body armour whilst having to handle him!

I found it was quite an emotional time when I first got Mollie, so I can imagine how hurtful you are finding their comments.

Just keep looking at your beautiful boy and congratulating yourself on your great taste. :D The comments will stop, and the hurt will pass, but you'll still have a gorgeous horse!

Well to be honest I think all on here are pandering to what you want to hear.
You're obviously over horsed and he looks a trained killer........

As someone very experienced in dealing with large dangerous animals (I do have a Destroyer after all) I will reluctantly save you and take him off your hands.
No don't thank me, I'm merely earning my place in heaven

:D

:D:D Definitely an 'attack' horse, got it written all over him :D:D Looks lovely to me :) Jealousy/envy call it what you will does strange things to people, take no notice and just enjoy your lovely boy (and when he does try to kill you just send him down to me please ;) )

I really don't understand why people seem to take pleasure in hoping others will fail... Human nature is an odd thing.

But just keep it all in mind, it will make you work harder to prove them all wrong and when your lad grows up into a well mannered young man you can stick 2 fingers up at em!

Blimey he looks very scarey, I can feel his evil stare through the screen.

In all honesty it sounds like the old green eyed monster lurking in a few people, raise above it ignore the comments and prove them wrong

hugs

jealousy, hold ya head high. dont stoop to their stupid levels, yard politics a compleate pain in the arse and keep smileing, dont argue back, then no one knows what ya thinking.

Rarrr
Yip thats the face of a killer, :p im sure one of "the experts" will be happy to take the snorting demon off your hands
Livery yards..... Dont ya just love them.:D
So many experts in the one place youre spoiled for choice :D

I'm sorry but you can see how neglected hovis is so (by his weekly moans about his mother) I think I should have him

If it were me, I would tell them to p*ss off and mind their own business, and that you are fully aware of what taking on a youngster entails.
I know its a bit rude but its the only way to deal with women sometimes..
He looks likes a sweetie btw! :)
