Currently looking for a pony for friend's daughter. Cannot find a bean!! Anything we do find doesn't fit the criteria in some way or another. What are we doing wrong?? We're not that fussy!
Want a gelding, somewhere between 6 and 12 years old and 13.2 and 14hh. Done lots of pony club, suitable for a novice rider who has donw pony club with currrent pony. Must be good to load, travel and enjoy jumping. Where is this pony??
Spend up to £3500
I think they may have to spend a bit more to get a real gem, as it has to be capable of jumping 1m tracks. I could be wrong...
What do you guys think? We're looking in Horsemart, Horse and Hound, Horse Deals, HorseQuest??

We're up North where it's a bit cheaper, but I have told them they may need to spend more..... Having said that, Even a pony that would do pony club up to 2'9 would be a miracle!!!

Think problem is the price really. 13.2-14hh ponies that are good for novices and talented jumpers are, as has been said, like gold dust. Everyone wants one.

It is possible to find for that budget if they don't mind something that has quirks or problems - maybe sweet itch or prone to lami, or a bit older, otherwise I think they'll have to add another thousand onto their budget at least.

Theyve found a really good one but it turns out is has sarcoids.... they went to see it but then when they found out it had had sarcoids removed they didn't want to go again. I had to agree, as although sarcoids wouldn't put me off, the pony was more expensive than their budget (£4k?) and they will be selling it again in about 3 years, as she will need a bigger pony by then, so it has to be resaleable..... hmph. I will have to tell them they will need to up the budget and be prepared for a quirk or two for their price!

Well yes making the difficult , impossible !!
Just out of intrest why does it have to be a gelding ?

We actually ended up travelling that kind of distance to find my daughter's pony (having initially said we were only going to look locally!)

If they won't stretch their boundaries I think that's what they will have to do!

I found just what you are looking for, last year for my daughter, and for the right price, as the previous owners didnt realise just how good he was both in flat work and jumping - he really is the pony of a life time, so they ARE out there!

The PC classifieds are a good place to look.

I do sympathise with you, I have been looking for a safe, happy hacker who will look after me with my joint problems, I started looking last year and am STILL looking!

Good luck.

Find out your local PC branches and ask to put a wanted ad in their newsletters. Alot of good pc ponies never come on the market, the last 4 ponies I bought were never advertised, I got them through word of mouth. I even nabbed one teenager at an XC event because she looked too big for her 14.1 and someone said she was thinking of selling. (I got someone to introduce me though in case they thought I was a stalker!). Another mother and I were stood either side of her, shovelling polos into the pony whilst offering the home of a lifetime to the lovely teenager who owned him. Honestly, some mothers!!

I have 3 people who want him in our pc so I will never have to advertise, but he is exactly what you want (and sorry, not for sale as got lovely girl who loans him from here). But that's what you have to do to get these gems

I still have all 4 ponies too, hence the national shortage!

Have sent the following to her, hope it helps!!

You may have seen all of these but some of them looked good.

After speaking to the people on the forum, they think you will either need to travel to get what you want or up the budget a bit?

Ooh, I like the little dun, good age as well it to sell on in a few years! Can't believe these ponies are that sort of price though, it's crackers isn't it!

Yes, love the dun too! But reading between the lines, it says needs competant rider (or something like that) so does that mean slightly mad?! Otherwise £3500 for 9yr old jumping that big seems quite cheap...

I don't know, I always read into it like that too but maybe they are just being honest that it isn't suitable as a 1st pony - could be quick etc?! Doesn't seem to have a lot of metal in its mouth.

I have been trawling - love window shopping! Seems to be a few out there well under the £3500 mark to be honest.

Have tried to PM you but can't. I have an outgrown 13.2hh who may be suitable - let me know how to contact you if interested or Pm me.

minesadouble where are you based?

We found a pony on Horsemart about 10 miles away and she is going to see it tonight, it looks really really good!! Bit too good to be true really but they are tootling down there to see him. Will update you!
