Why could my pony be doing this?

My pony wears a french link snaffle and has recently been refusing to open her mouth to have the bridle on and also is keeping hold of the bit when taking it off, even though I am very careful when putting on and taking off. I think she also takes hold of the bit when riding but not too sure. She is very hard in the mouth but I've put that down to her previous life, possibly been ridden by novices. She had her teeth rasped a few months ago. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you sure the french link is sitting high enough in her mouth (as looks can be deceptive with FL's)? I adjusted B's cheek pieces just one hole up and it made all the difference.

I always give my ones a treat in with the bit, always keeps them opening their mouthes! One baby who was a bit weird about it, now looks forward to having his bit (and treat!)!

They do seem to be hard to fit and my boy never got used to it - changed him to a plastic d ring snaffle and he's going like a dream......
