Everybody when they go away want people to look after their horses/ponies for them, and mostly for free.
Last week i went away to Hickstead for 4 days. I asked a woman from the livery yard to feed my pony once a day, she said she would do it for free-mainly because i have looked after hers for free before, and why not?-but she would like to ride my pony. She wanted to ride it as she wanted to hack out with her son, but her other horse was at senior camp with her daughter.I agreed, as it would make sure she was overly careful on looking after her, plus my pony can be very fresh if not ridden.
I was slightly worried, as the woman who was looking after my pony is known for being a reckless rider, meaning gallop and canter and huge fences, even though i cant comment on her riding as good. Also the fact that the woman is easily 5ft6 and my pony is a small 14.2hh.
I prepared the feed bags for her so that i knew my pony was having the correct amount, and labelled them for the days, times. Then i followed on to text the woman to tell her where the feed bags where, when they needed to be fed, and why its important she got the feed at the correct time. (Because shes had feed at the same time everyday for the past two years, and she likes her continual routine). I thought doing all this was very reasonable, and i had made her life easier.
The reason we were going to Hickstead for such a long time, was the fact that my sister was competing. Seeing as my sisters pony and mine are field buddies, and sole mates, we asked the woman not to let my sisters pony see mine at any point until we had left. Not only once but three times, the woman bought my pony past my sisters, sending it crazy, and making it load difficultly.
When we got back on Sunday, i went straight to the field to see my pony, as i checked her over i noticed a small splint on her front leg. I knew she must have got it over the past few days, as i ALWAYS make sure she is wearing her protective boots, being a youngster i know its important that she is protected. Angry about that, i was furious to find out she hadnt put my ponies boots on, and had left my tack in a large heap by the tackroom window, meaning the tack was damp and wet. VERY angry by now i went down to prepare the next mornings feed to find, all the prepared feed bags still there. Meaning my pony hadnt been fed for four days. I was furious.
The woman claimed i hadnt told her my pony needed feeding, which is a lie, as the only reason i wanted her to look after her was because i needed someone to feed her.
Did she think i just lent her my pony for 4 days for her lesiure? NO i didnt.
I should have known better, and said all my demands to her face. As i feel all this is my fault.
I decided to put this thread on following other complaining threads about riding peoples horses without permission, etc.
I feel very bad now
