I have not ridden for almost a year but agreed to have a shared private lesson with a friend. My friend was suffering with a cold and had to cancel. I thought what the Hell and decided to go ahead anyway......

Instructor watched me ride for 10 mins before putting me on the lunge OMG I have not ridden without stirrups since I was at Pony Camp

Instructor was very good and after 20 mins decided I could have a change of horse & we could do some jumping???????????????????

This was an old school instructor who set up bounces in the jumping lane and made me tie up the reins....

At 40 you would have thought I had the reasoning to say no thank you but I was too embarrased (or knackered
to say anything)

After the lesson I slithered off the lovely horse and booked again for next week..........................................

OMG! Wish the instructors this way did that. Apparantly, they can't due to insurance...

How the heck is anyone emant to learn to balance otherwise? My daughter's a teenager and even using our own horse, has NEVER been allowed to do this.

wow! fantastic, its all about Health and Safety these days, sounds like you have found a proper 'old school' instructor...i remember the days at pony club of jumping lanes with no reins, no stirrups, no saddle sometimes! didn't half teach us about balance!
