Have their fetlock boots removed immediately after a class? Lucky enough to be at Hickstead on Thursday and spent some time watching the warm up and tack combinations. I would say around 3/4 of the riders had their helpers remove the fetlock boots as soon as they exited the ring. The horse then went back to the lorries. Thought initially that it was for warming up for another class but the only rider who went back in after a round, sans boots, was Tim Stockdale and he was walking his horse off. Anyone throw any light on this?

Because they might be slightly weighted. And if you watch they're likely put on just before they go in, and done very tight to pinch a bit to make the horse be neat with it's legs behind.

They have restricted the use of pinch and weighted boots afaik, but some of the legal ones still around can do the job ok. I used to do this with weighted boots for a lady I worked for around 2006 ish.

I don't think pinch boots or weighted boots are legal now, but some back boots will have a similar effect and are jump legal. Leaving them on will minimise their effect.
Stipendary stewards are fairly wised up to this now.
