Why do BD Results take so long?

I'm relatively new to BD and I'm really struggling to see why it takes BD so long to upload their results onto their website. Currently it shows we have been to one event, I'm waiting for 2 lots of results to go up and 18 points to be added to my horse's record! Having converted from BE I am a little disheartened that BE can get all of their results up within 24 hours, if not on the same evening! Yet I've waiting over 2 weeks to see an update on T's record!

So my question is, why does it take so long and does it get to anybody else or is it just me?

It normally takes around 3 weeks before your results will show, I believe it is to do with their computer systems, the time it takes the show venue to send in the results. I have made numerous calls to BD as I had a number of incorrect results it took about 10 calls until it eventually got changed.
I always keep my own record of my results so I can cross reference and see if I have moved up a rider group or gone from Res to Open section.

You'll also find that high profile competitions/regionals/area festival results will go up straight away but your "normal" BD will have to wait! Saying that, the Area Festival at Bury Farm still haven't gone up!

The reason the results take so long is that the computer systems and staffing are not sufficient for the purpose.
You will also find frequent mistakes in the results, so it is always worth routinely checking your own results.

They're not really on top of computers at BD. They seem to do a lot of data imputing manualy which results in a lot of delays and mistakes. Look at their forum, it's like someone went back to 1980 and came back with a forum just for BD to use!

Thanks for the replies, I have to keep a record of my own results for the BYRDS scheme anyway. I shall make sure I keep an eye on them now considering all of you mentioned about the frequent mistakes! I can understand that it takes a while with the ancient computer systems but then as said above all the high profile events go up as quickly as BE results go up!

6-8 weeks is not unusual a lot depends on where the competition was as some centres are quicker sending in their results than others. BE comes straight off the scorers laptop as they have their own programme written for it so that is why it works so well. BD obviously dont need such an elaborate system.

I'm waiting for some from 6th October for Patchetts to go up, but results for a later show at Patchetts (18th or 19th October) have already gone up which is strange.

I think it's more to do with the time the show venues take to submit the results to BD - also most mistakes seem to be the venues fault and not BDs (well they have with mine anyway).

I always keep a record of my results - much safer!

I have to agree, it is shocking! After much hassle on my part my results for 2012 still aren't right, never mind 2013! Ultimately it doesn't really matter too much to me as dressage is a diversion rather than a primary pastime, but they did 'lose' a set of my results which contained two AF qualifying scores which I needed at the time. I could have got it sorted, but knowing the amount of hassle it normally takes I didn't bother in the end. Coming from eventing it's crazy - there are results missing from my BD record from 8 weeks ago, yet as Loopiesteff says BE results are often up before you get home (and in real time for 3DEs). I do find it extremely frustrating, and inevitably it's the good results which go missing which makes our record look bad!

I'm not sure about the venues. Certainly I spoke to one organiser who emails results to BD on the night of the show, even if it's a weekend. They then take upwards of a fortnight to appear on my horse's record...

I don't think it's the venues either in my experience... A few of the centres I go to put the results on their website/facebook the same day or the day after and they still take weeks to show on the BD website. If the centre has published them surely they would send them over to BD!? It is frustrating that they take so long though!!

I was chasing for some results recently and was told the venue hadn't sent the results in so some of the delays may be down to the venues. This must have been at least 4 weeks after the competition.

The venue had displayed the result on their website the day after the competition so why they hadn't sent them to BD I don't know.

The secretary entry me a copy of the scoresheet from this weekend's competition and it does say clearly on the top that all scores must be sent to BD within 48 hours so I'm siding with those that feel it isn't the organisers fault. Gamebird- that worries me, considering we shall be selling my boy to a dressage home (hopefully) and a set of missing results isn't going to look very good! If I pay over £20 per class I'd just really like to see the results within a few days rather than waiting weeks!

Eventer96 - BD will be able to tell you or new owner the results or send you a print out but they just won't display for weeks due to their IT systems. We recently entered a points competition and BD sent us a print out of results but they didn't display until 2 weeks later! so it is mainly all down to IT.

They probably had sent them
It's an excuse from BD used a fair bit, I had a regional qualification hinging on a result 'the venue hadn't sent in', when in reality BD had filed them away without processing.

That's really good to know, thank you!
