Why do bitch puppies sell first?

Because you can breed from them (you can make more from a litter than from one stud) - not something I like or agree with but it's the way a lot of people think - and they are seen as 'easier' a lot of the time in pet homes.

The working people that I know seem to prefer dogs actually, as when a bitch is in season it can fook up your training and means in competition you have to wait until everyone else (IE all the dogs) are finished.
 
Tbh I have never found this, different people have different preferences. What I do know is that whatever you have the most bookings for, the bitch will whelp the least of.:p
 
I don't think it's just to do with the breeding. Male dogs are more often associated with aggression and trainability issues. Rightly or wrongly this often affects people's choices, particularly if they have kids. I completely understand the assumption that a female would be better around kids than a male. Obviously, there isn't much grounding for these assumptions but it's understandable.

I completely agree that a lot of it is to do with breeding, I was merely pointing out that there are other factors as well. I hadn't read your post completely before posting mine, so I wasn't meaning to repeat what you said or disagree!
 
We have 9 bitches and 1 dog (been done) and only kept him as no takers, might pay more for bitch but dont have to neuter them, and just prefer bitches cleaner, don't water wheels or peoples legs but really parents prefered bitches and just followed suit.

This. I always assume you've a better bet of having an even tempered bitch than dog. Dunno why I do though.
 
We are always getting people ringing up for a bitch pup, older if possible - aye reet!! not in a million years, I like little girl dogs you can rub their tummy, our mannie has a boy thing in the way!!! lol
 
I have always had bitches but that could have come from my parents as our dogs when growing up were always bitches. I have ever intended breeding from them and they have all been spayed. I also prefers geldings in horses but my cats bar one have been female as well.
 
We have had 5 bitches and 1 dog over the years, never breed from any of them, but prefer bitches, same as nicoleS-007, saying that the dog was my little JRT and I still really miss him 10 months after loosing him. Funny enough I prefer geldings and male cats, our female cat is a real thug!! and very much her own boss, with this snow she is really picking on the dogs as she isn't going out much.
 
as i live in a male household..all my animals are female,apart from simba my sons pony

when we got are whippy pup it had to be a bitch and had her on order once the dam was in pup as i already had a bitch

i find it really off putting if a breeder sell bitches for more £££s..im sure it take the same amount of £s to rear both sexs and some breeders will have a clause not to breed bitches sold

alot of dog breeders are out there the £££s
 
I'm now wondering if people keep bitch prices high to put potential backyard breeders off rather than just to command more money for them because of their future breeding potential?

I don't know anyone who charges more for bitches, be interested if anyone on here does it, and why?

I always had bitches but I am a recent convert to boys!
If they were all like my old girl, who was a bit of a tomboy :p I find bitches a bit more independent.
 
As mentioned. You can breed from them.
Personally. I think it's wrong. But hey ho peoples greed for money getting in the way yet again.
I prefer dogs over bitches, no idea why I just get along with them better. Saying that I have two bitches and we all get along amazingly.

I'll never understand why people are STILL breeding second rate pups and selling them for more. But. I guess it's like the horses :/
