As per the title - in my horses field there is a huge big concrete round block which houses I think a manhole, but I often see them standing there and just licking the concrete and it's not just a lick or two they stand there for quite a while just licking and licking, they did it for ages today while I was watching them, are they lacking in something ?

Depending on the mixture used, it could a few things that the horses like. There is limestone, aggregates and sand in concrete so could just be that they like the flavour. Sometimes horses just get into a habit of licking, doesn't matter what it is, generally boredom has them do this.

Mine lick the concrete in their pen after I've gritted when it's freezing
