Feels like my horse should be bored of jumping now... he's 7yo and I've been jumping him once a week, in normal terms I would class this as too much but he seems to love it, and is still improving each time I get on, so i'm wondering, am I overjumping him or is he fine? Normally I'd say yes I was but he's not showing any signs that I am so... What to do?

Once a week? As in a schooling jumping session once a week or one jumping competition?

I plan to have a jumping lesson once a week and I think that aint much. One day a week isnt overjumping him at all. Now if it was 4 or 5 days a week then thats a different story.

Thanks... I think its because no horse ive had before has needed jumping in the week, so only used to jumping at competitions, so this feels odd. One schooling sesh, plus competitions, altho i might miss the schooling depending on the competition.

I have a lesson once a week and then jump at weekends as well, sometimes less but really my horse gets jumped at least once a week if not twice and I dont think Im over jumping him - even though its me who needs the practice and not him!

As your horse is fairly young and still learning and building up correct muscles, I would think jumping him once or even twice a week was just fine. Keep the sessions short.
Little and often is surely much better... as long as he is doing other work too.

Thanks bubblegum... Yes he has one day off a week, then weekends are saved for competitions, jumps one day a week, hacks one day a week and does flatwork the other two weekdays.

Thats fine, mine generally does some sort of polework/jumping once a week normally, but then this week on a run up to a competition, he has been for a jump lesson, XC schooling, and a SJ comp over last weekend, and then Jumped again tonight, will be again on Sat and then doing a ODE on Monday. He is tonnes better like that, and comes out feeling confident and happy. He is 6.

I have always done 2 jumping comps a month & 2 jumping lessons a month, both with my current horse, a 5 yo ISH & my previous horse Catembi who was an 11 yo ISH by Cruising & that has worked out absolutely fine. I've also done the odd extra jumping lesson if we've got an issue to work through.
