I work with dogs, can't I just stay behind the scenes and not have to deal with their owners??

Today, I had a nice little 8 month old pup come in for clipping, my Boss took it off the owners and was told that they were going to be rehoming it as his wife had to go back to work and they couldn't afford the dog.. he drove off in a rather expensive 4X4...
Boss asked him what breed it was as it had been booked in as a 'Cockerpoo' and she had no idea what that was, she asked if it was a cross between a Cocker and a Poodle, only to be informed it was a pedigree...
So I wonder how much they paid for it, and what's the betting instead of finding it a good home, they sell it??
Although they were supposed to pick it up at after lunch, still no sign of them when I left work after 5, maybe we've got a dog to rehome for the price of a clip!

Why didn't they think 6 months ago what would happen if the wife had to go back to work?? WHy do people think of their animals as disposible? If we're struggling with money then we go without rather than the dog (although Otto is a spoilt brat!!)

Sweet little dog actually, looks like a working cocker cross, might pup-nap him and take him out beating :D :D Now he's has a haircut he wouldn't get stuck in the brambles! :D

aww in the 70s we had a cockerpoodle, bought her for $10 from a pet shop in America, I think though that she was an accidental cockerpoodle, but we loved her nontheless bless her. Hope that she finds a lovely new home

Because people are shits. Do these people have no attachment or sense of responsibility at all?

Actually I can well believe it, I don't know why I keep browsing the freeads/Preloved/Many Tears etc. because I just get upset and angry about all the dogs being handed around like commodities.

One of these days CC's prediction will come true and I will be a crazy old dog lady who takes in all the waifs and strays, living permanently in hair-covered fleeces with wellies over my wrinkly tights. :o

ETA: Here's the latest one that made my eyes prickle...

People suck, they really do. Got an OES in once, matted all over and a maggoty backside..the owner stated that it had seen a vet the day before and HE SAID it was in excellent condition..yup he insulted my intelligence..now no one likes that do they?

I never look on those adverts, I have to keep away!

Why is it that invariably these people have the same stuck up attitude too? They can't be told a sodding thing! The dog came in looking like a matted bog brush and he said he only wanted a little off it. I clipped it so it was mat-free, looked smart and tidy and would have been nice and easy to keep on top of, if he did turn up I bet I'd clipped it too short   Brush the bloody thing and I wouldn't have to!!

NN - you'll have to fight me for him first! Although if anyone ever asked me what he was, I wouldn't be responding with 'a pedigree Cockerpoo, don'tcha know!!' :D :D

I had a Bearded Collie in a few weeks ago, so matted the poo couldn't get out her bottom, there was literally days worth of poo in there! :( I had to clip her on a 3mm blade and it came off like a sheep's fleece!

I just hate liars,if you dont know ask a question, dont lie or say you understand when you dont, noone minds giving out advice its when its not followed that gets on my t*t%.Whats betting the next door neighbours got a dog so they had to keep up with the joneses.

Fools.

People are really strange...I get all the time people who say their dogs are a good weight (according to the vet) and yet their small dog resembles a table! With disappearing legs!

I wonder if the OP dog was maybe in an accident?! Possibly he's a jerk anyway, but I always wonder whether something has horribly gone wrong with them. I don't want to chance my luck, but I've yet to be "left" with a dog (watch I will today....no, that won't happen cos the two dogs that are comin I know well and then after that it's cats with the owners staying so no luck of that! whew).

We had two toy poodles in the other day from a fosterer for Many Tears. Story is that these two were kept in a shed. Really sweet wee things - both needing homes (anyone want a couple of toy apricots?). Poodles don't "LIVE" in sheds. They're meant to be on fluffy pillows with their every whim catered to (according to my mini- who's birthday it was yesterday!)

Got a hugely obese min poodle once,a tiny head and a gross fat body...SO FAT that I had to LIFT up the fat folds to clip it`s body.Truly revolting.Told the owner to diet it..the good old Ped Chum and Broad Bran diet (works like magic) ,five MONTHS later she rang up complaining it`s skin was flakey (it was when it was clipped by me too) and the VET SAID that the diet was all wrong (and sold her a sack of his crap) Anyway ,I told her I was bored with talking about her fat dog, which admittedly got rid of her.Poor bloody poodle.Urrrgghhh:mad:

oh that's gross....I had a poodle in like that and it really broke my heart. It was clients of mine that had a white toy - it died of pancreatitis. I cried my eyes out when that toy died -- really liked the dog and they were good pet owners, too. So I gave them my grooming tutor's number who breeds for show -- these were fab fab fab pups and this woman only got one on my recommendation as a pet owner. Anyway, this particular line of poodles are "good doers" and both the breeder and I told the owner. She insisted on feeding it up, then the lady had a broken ankle, which I undestand made walking it difficult, but brushing, too?!? So the very last time I saw the dog it was so grotesquely obese and matted matted matted - so I shaved the lot off - which was difficult cos it had extra chins!!!. She phoned me later to bitch me out and never came back.

We get no end of dogs left at the kennels, I'm not sure whether people decide before they bring it in that they are going to abadon it with us or whether they have such a good time without it they decide they don't want it anymore.
I've not had to deal with any owners today, just Parents and they are far more laid back than the dog owners :D Plus shouting at small children for four hours really helps relieve the stress of the rest of the week! :D
