Why do jockeys hold the reins with four fingers instead of the traditional way with 3 fingers?

Strange but been wondering, thanks Emily xx

I was always told that both ways are correct, the rein between the fingers gives more feel and ability to squeeze the rein imo, whereas the jockey will be concerned with bog standard brakes and steering rather than refinement.

Gives more power and grip and less likely to blister and deform. I have a friend who trains them and she rides with three and her fingers have bent into the shape of reins!
