Took Liri in the school today with my 8 year old daughter. I have been finding keeping Liri in canter hard work, she is pretty lazy in the school and keeps going back into trot. Anyway, daughter has been cantering in her lessons at riding school so decided to practice her skills on Liri. Well, couldn't believe it. She had no problems whatsoever, and darn horse seemed to really enjoy it with her. Yeah yeah I know she is only half my weight and height, but it did make me wonder what she's got that I haven't

Oh I know that feeling! My daughter is about 4 stone lighter than me and my awkward warmblood jumps 3'9 with her in the school. He has started groaning in just our flatwork lessons about half way through now. I am taking that as a hint that I need to diet.

I think it helps that children have no fear and boundless energy. It sickens me watching the kids half my age and size get on the horse that has just ditched me several times in front of a fence and start flying over 4 foot spreads within minutes! Thinking back I'm sure I was the same at their age though.

The kids on our yard just get on and ride without worrying what they look like , they just seem to relax and enjoy it and their ponies do the same , whereas I (for instance) feel silly if I get watched , and constantly worry that Im not riding correctly and Im sure he doesnt go as well for me as he does for my daughters

Its so true, they just don't care, my daughter couldn't care less what she looks like or who is watching, and has no fear at all, and Liri seems to love her for it.
