Why do people think their horse is more special than yours?

Got to the yard yesterday to be told 'oh there's a huge pile of haylage been put out in the main field so they'll have lots to munch on tonight'...fine cos the grazing at our yard is appauling and my lad is in during the day so he won't have been standing there munching 24/7. Then get told it was 'dusty' 'old' 'mouldy' haylage that one of the other livierys didn't want to give to her horses so the YO told her to throw it in the field rather than bin it.

OKAY so it's not good enough for your horse but it's okay for mine?????? I'm starting to get sick and fed up of the precious brigade!! What the hell makes you think I don't mind my horse eating s**t haylage???? Apart from the fact the same woman had a discussion with me about my horse scouring so she knows damn well I'm concerned about the quality of forage he's having.

Their horses are too good to share the big field so they insist on having paddocks made...they skimp on the fencing then complain when the fences are knocked down (and yes just because me and another livery have cobs our horses are blamed cos precious wouldn't ever knock down a fence to get to actually see other horses would it?). Then they dare to throw their unwanted haylage into my horses field. If I hear one more cry of 'my horse hasn't been out today because the fence is down' I'll stick the fence where the sun don't shine. TURN THE POOR CREATURES OUT WITH OTHER HORSES AND LET THEM ENJOY BEING A HORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please please please can the lottery fairy just give me enough to buy my own little paddock where I can have my horse and other like minded UNSELFISH owners to share with?
 
Did you mention it to them? I’d be really annoyed if someone gave mine dusty/mouldy haylage, that’s just disrespectful what's not good enough for one horse is the same for the rest, having said that though, their not entirely to blame by the sounds of it, after all your YO told them to throw it in, perhaps have a polite word them so it doesn’t happen again. :)
 
Thats life I'm afraid.....same reason people think their own kids are more special than anyone elses. Human nature.

Used to get similar on a yard I was on...so I left. You don't need a lottery win to rent your own paddock somewhere- for me it works out cheaper than a yard....perhaps look into it and then you can escape and do your own thing. Best thing I ever did.:)
 
Lol! I did and I was actually very controlled..which for me is something! Went into the trainers tack room and he talked me down before I approached the other livery! Just said please would you mind not throwing haylage out into the main field. She said the YO told her to, which I said is fine because it's her horses that are out in the daytime and if she doesn't mind them eating s**t thats her choice but could she make sure that there was only enough that would be eaten in the day so when Kane is turned out he won't eat it. I had to say 'if you think it's not good enough for your horses then assume it's not good enough for mine, you do know he's sugar intolerate and shouldn't be eating huge amounts of haylage so I'd appreicate it if you ask next time'. She did apologise and offered to remove it so can't complain.

Just winds me up that so many have precious horses that they demand special treatment for, my horse is uniquely special to me but I wouldn't ever put his care before another horses. To me they are equal and should be treated as such.
 
Thats is a defo DUH ! moment ! If it aint good enough for your horse don't give it to mine or others who don't want their horse eating manky stuff.

Would she pay the vet bill for colic ? or any other illness brought on from consuming it.

Years ago, I was on a yard where some ponies were out overnight, owner put hay out, manky (stolen) it turned out hay, I asked if she could only put out what they would eat overnight so that my horse (dust allergy) couldn't eat it. She said your horse always coughs ! I said well yes becuase he's eating your manky (words to that effect) hay !

These people need to extract their heads from dark places they keep them

That would annoy me big style.
Especially since I know a mare who ingested mouldy hayledge and became quite ill because of it. She ended up with quite a severe chest infection due to breating in the mould spores..
If it was perfectly good hayledge that their horse just hadn't finished thats one thing.. but I would always ask the owners..
Perhaps I am odd and expect nobody to interfer with my horse unless by prior arrangement i.e haying them or bringing in..
 
I have been looking for land to rent for ages, considering I live in a very rural area it's like finding hens teeth!! Farmers don't want horses on their land and if they do it's 80+ acres and free range horses..which for a cob isn't the best grazing!! Lol!! I'd never see him again!! I do love being on a yard and generally I enjoy having the company and do manage to ignore the selfish few but that was just one step too far yesterday. I've been offered livery at a small place that I tried out last winter, but had to leave because the other horses hated my lad! She's now back to just 1 other horse so I would be able to treat the place as my own but I think I'd miss the company as the owner doesn't ride. Sigh. I'll be fine tonight I'm sure it's just I needed a rant and no one else 'gets' it like other horsey people. ;)
