I was riding back from my lesson this afternoon and someone had to shout at me, for what reason i do not know. He was coming towards me, two lane road so was wide he didn't need to move or wait and wasn't close but felt the need to wind his window down and angrly (sp) shout "get off the roads stay on bridleways".
I must say its not often i come across drivers who are like this but just wonder why they feel the need to shout for no reason. Do they not realise alot of us would much rather just be on bridleways and fields but need to ride on roads to even get to them.

Sorry rant over, it just annoyed me.

What a weirdo! You should have shouted "Stay in the loony bin and off the roads" does he expect you to fly to he bridleways:confused::D

best thing to do - smile sweetly and say god morning/afternoon thankyou for slowing etc - people like these are looking for an argument - and in a couple of tons of metal they are at an advantage - then make note of number and report to the police.

Yes weird and rude. I was just a bit surprised as thought it was so un necessary (sp), Pony wasn't messing about or anything (not that it would justify it but could wind someone up)
Anyone else meet people like this when out?

I'm afraid these sorts of incidents really get on my nerves. I would love to be able to say, 'thank you and have a nice day', but it always comes out a little more...erm Anglo Saxon!

Pedantic has it right.

I think some people forget that horses were on the roads LONG before cars were!!

ditto this!

But what really makes me laugh is the idiots that dont wind their window down to shout at you! Do they think we can hear them! lol! They are just shouting at themselves!

Oh don't start me off... I had a controlled discussion with a very loud and outspoken work colleague of mine last week. She had a real go because she had to wait behind 3 ponies on a main road, that girls looked about 12 and shouldn't have been there, and they were going very slowly (er.... they were walking). On top of that the girl in the middle was waving her hands around as she spoke and my colleague didn't know if she was indicating or not (I would have thought that was obvious). This woman annoys me at the best of times but she was full of bile and angst about this. And all because she got held up for a couple of minutes as there was traffic coming the other way.

Apparently she wound her window down (she wasn't even the driver!!) and had a go at them for being on the road and told the girl in the middle to stop waving her hands around because she didn't know what she was doing. Sigh.

I patiently explained that we really wouldn't be on the roads if we didn't have to be and yes at 12 they are allowed on the roads and that's probably why there was 3 of them. I couldn't win.... she just wanted to vent. Silly cow.
