why do some mares have tushes?

I am picking a subject for my dissertation and was wondering if there was
anybody out there with the knowledge on why some mares grown tushes?



I am researching to see if hormones play a role, as my mares has them and my
vet asked if she was quite dominant. This left me to the presumption that mares
with dominant traits may grow male teeth? eg. more testosterone (for example)
makes the mare more dominant and therefore gains male traits such as tushes
which can be used whilst fighting?



this is a complete guess and please if anyone has any references or research
or knows anything please let me know

Lol!! didn't notice date until you mentioned it!! A mare I had had tushes. Yes quite dominant. She was a Saint when in season but horrible the rest of the time!!

My younger mare has 2 lower canines and she's always acted quite "stud-like" around other mares, especially when they're in season. She also has a very deep, stallion neigh lol.
