Went to watch some local indoor jumping today, and i was appalled by how many riders WHIP their horse completely unnecessary and "hard" when it was very clear it was the riders fault.. A few girls whipped and whipped their horse's on entering the ring, even before the horse had a chance to move forward. It made me feel sick and thought to myself "what do they do at home, when no one is around!!!". I thought the judges would have asked those's girls to leave the ring!! but nothing was said.... What are your thoughts on this.. I mean their is whipping and Bloody whipping!!!

...don't get me started!!!

Well one lady about 30ish, so not a school girl Whipped and then whipped some more. I did say some thing from the gallery and she heard me but still whiped just to piss me off!!! i felt like jumping from my seat and sticking a saddle on her and take the whip to her. just for standing still. Do judges have the right to say..GET OUT AND GO HOME......

The last time I saw someone whip their horse and really kick it spurs in the ring and then again in the warm-up area after their round was ELIMINATED for excessive whip/spur use (I was the ring steward)!!

If it is unnecessary then I hate it. However I have quite a green horse but he is 11 and just takes the piss sometimes and I do not WHIP him hard as such but i do give him a smack and I have been taught not to give him a second chance so if he backs of to the point where I think he may stop then I think it neccessary to give him a tap to tell him to get on with it and dont bother stopping. I am not sure if this is overly WHIPPING in your opinion but in my opinion this is acceptable but when there is no need then I am with you

organisers have the right to ask someone 2 leave the sight without giving a reason. there is definatly a reason here so i think orgainsers should use the right more often!

Also I was at an indoor showjumping on Friday (a small PC one) and when i got in the ring, sparky did not listen to me and started spooking at a jump going past, like stopping before he even went past it and I gave him a tap on the shoulder. If you do that in most comps before you have approached the 1st fence you can get eliminated!

I dont want to even start on this one really...unfortunately people think that using a stick is the first thing to do when riding rather then pushing with their legs...

I believe in teaching a horse manners, but what i saw today was horrid and completely unnecessary, it's like this...when you drive a car and reverse into a tree."who's fault "is it....

Lazy stupid way of riding if you ask me. Can't be a***ed to school or learn to ride well so use the whip all the time.

I have seen an occasion where the judge came down and took a kid's whip from them! Can you bring it up with the organisers?

You no what "Inmydreams" I think i will write to them... as i did say some thing to one lady and she just whipped the horse harder just to pee me off..

To be honest the time that I'm thinking of, the person had lost their temper and all self control. They had been OTT in the ring (but to be fair having warmed up beautifully the horse was a [****] in the ring), however their action back in the warm-up area were truly appalling. I'm sure in the cold light of day they would have been deeply ashamed of their actions (and if they weren't they should have been).

I know exactly what you mean. I also feel incredibly nauseous when I see this sort of treatment; of course I also can't remain quiet and have to say something.

A quick, sharp smack for naughty or bad behaviour is one thing, belting a horse is quite something else and I cannot stand seeing it.

The standard of riders today sickens me! they seem to expect horses/ponies are machines!

They are so busy showing off that when they make a mistake they take it out on their horse!

These people should be escourted from the showground!

The judges should give a yellow card to warn the rider that her lack of horsemanship is being reviewed!

then red card to eliminate them!

Certainly under the new welfare act horses and ponies deserve a home without whipping!

As some one said earlier if this is what they do in public goodness knows what they do in private!!!!
