My mare had a hoof abscess which is finally healing 2 weeks on. Vet said this morning that I could stop poulticing & start drying it out with the aim to start exercising her again at the weekend. Horray I thought...

Then this evening she barged out her stable & went for a gallop. The hoof ripped & it was bleeding a bit & now its sore again

Why do they always mess themselves up again just when things are just getting better...?!

Typical. My horse did that after a bruised sole, and set himself back again. Silly creatures.

No they don't, do they?! It's always the same too. They get better then get fed up before you've finished fixing them. I'd be happy to never to see poultice again! The bright side is that I'm an expert at banaging hooves now...

I learnt a tip off of here that may save you some time if you have to go back to poulticing. Use a nappy instead!

They are cheaper and you can use the fastening tabs to hold it on the foot before adding the gaffa tape!

All the best, good luck!
