Just watching some rubbish on 3.... they have just received 2 ex police horses from the uk - why - I know loads of folk that have wanted to re-home an ex police horse and they have always been refused ?

I think these people moved to France after they first started taking on the retired horses, to a nicer bigger better equipped place! :)

Aw, I love that programme (I am guessing you are referring to Little England?). Makes me feel all summery. Fii is right though, these people took on retired police horses when in the UK and then they moved themselves and the horses to France. From watching a previous episode, it seems they fund much of it themselves - although they had a fund raising event last episode.

I suspect it's cheaper to care for the horses (and to live in general) over there than it is in the UK.

The French retirement home is run by the same family that used to run the Devon home since the 1970's. They move to France in order to expand. They only take those that genuinely need to retire due to ill health, not those who are able to carry on working.
