as the post says really, am i just lazy? i put girth over top still attatched at one side, that bad? i saw post while back and they said they took everything off, is this what i should be doin? will add i have synthetic saddle

I think it's up to the individual.

I always take everything off - because I change my numnah every time and I ride, and always clean my girth afterwards as well. But it's personal preference.

.

I always take it completely off.. i also change numnah and clean everything after each ride too.
but i agree, up to you really. it's easier when it comes to cleaning though.

I always take the girth off after use.

The girth should be done up evenly on both sides to eliminate tension i.e. put loosely on then tightened up one hole on either side.

Another one who always takes girth and numnah off - numnah to air/dry (changed weekly!) girth off because 1. easier to clean 2. it marks my saddle if left on top!

My oh my I must be so lazy! Lol !

I used to leave everything attached on my synthetic saddle, they're pretty tough. However, a nice smart leather saddle and a pony that likes to bounce through puddles at high speed mean I now take my numnah and girth off and leave them to air and dry.

Used to leave them on, but now I take everything off - probably a hang-over from when I was using my nice (and expensive!) Albion lol.

Also, like above, change/wash numnah between rides

. Trying to get back into the habit of cleaning tack between each ride as well

. I clean the bit, but tack tends to be left for a week before cleaning

I used to leave the girth on when I used cotton ones but now I have a leather one I take it off, otherwise you can see it put strain on the leather where it's bent the wrong way.

Yeah that bamboozled me as well! I take numnah off and hang it up in stable so it can dry off and if horse is moulting I'll brush it off once its dry, but it sure as hell don't get washed every time.

Horse has never complained either!

I take the girth off every time. I don't like to leave a damp, sweaty numnah on the saddle and when tacking up, I like to put the numnah on first, then the saddle and do my girth up a hole at a time on alternate sides.

I always take the girth off and wipe it clean, it's a short dressage one so won't lay across the saddle if still attached. I only take the numnah off if it needs to dry or I am going to wash it. I find the saddle rack marks my saddle if no numnah there.
