Not sure where this is going but...........anyone ever bought a project / short term purchase and never ends up selling?
I will try and keep this brief......I needed a companion for my foal last year at weaning time, rather than buying a little pony I decided to buy a young horse so laminitis risk would be minimal then the idea was to break them in and sell them on. So bought the 1st horse I went to see, took trailer and although he was lame I brought him home ( i knew he was 1/10th lame and just needed time off in the field). Anyway I certainly made the right choice and did his babysiting duties 100%.
Although very easy to break he does have a special character, was sooooo.. naughty and could get very anxious - sometimes it would take over 20 mins to even get on him...he terrified everyone at his first two shows ( thought he was champion the wonder horse!) and even tried to get through the top door of my IW trailer - again bringing chaos to the show ground.
He could bring a new meaning to being 'nappy' and had a temper.
So now.....he hacks out 100% heaviest traffic and I can now mount him without even holding his reins and from the ground if needed out hacking, he is less anxious, being nappy and having a temper is pathetic - you sit there and he gives up, most of all he loves to do 'outings' on his own - especially in the trailer, jumps double clears, placed sometimes.........but most of all its his personality, I have never owned a horse that truely believes he is a dog and loves to be pampered.
Ok so the selling bit(or loaning).........why am I struggling, I have too many horses and he was never selected as a lifetime horse but it actually makes me feel sad thinking about it.
I think its because I know how he was and what he is now......trying to find a home that can be so understanding is not easy, I need the impossible experienced ( ex comp. ) rider that wants to do loads of hacking and do low level stuff and most of all has patience - they just don't exsist.
Anyway if you didn't have a glass of wine before you deserve one now..............
