My friend goes on holiday tomorrow - flies at 6am and has to be up at 1am. I am looking after her ponies for her. She got them in tonight and went, and as I was there a bit later, just went to check over their doors and the mini Shetland didn't look right. My initial thought was laminitis, but checked hooves, no heat and no pulse (it's actually quite hard finding a pulse in a mini Shetland!). Can't explain it but just wasn't right. There were still some people at the yard, so I left, and then I got a phone call from another friend saying that she was down, and they had got her up but she had gone down again. By this time its a bit of a dilemma - do I call her or not call her, but as friend hasn't gone yet, I rang her and she said that she wanted to go to the yard herself, so she did and the vet has been. She has been given buscopan jab and will hopefully be ok, but I'm going to go down at about 10pm to check her. I am now neurotic that something is going to happen while she is away. I suspect the grass coming through has filled her with gas......please keep fingers crossed that she's ok!! Vet's number is on speed dial.
