matter when you clip your horse

are you supposed to give a full clip as your last clip, why is this?

what affect does it have on the coat if you clip your horse the same as its got at the moment like a blanket clip?

if you didnt clip your horse again and it has the inbetweenie clip at the moment what will their sumer coat be like

if you do a last clip do you rug up to keep a short summer coat

what do the above do to the summer coat as reguards to a thin and or smart coat?

I think the theory is that if you show your horse you shouldn't clip after 31st Dec to preserve the best possible summer coat.

This is to make sure that the tips of the summer coat are all long and thin rather than short and blunt. (Think shaved legs!) So to make sure you don't catch the end of any hair which might be part of the summer coat you don't clip after the turn of the year.

But really - unless you show at a fairly senior level it doesn't matter much. If your horse is in work during the winter it is far more important that he is comfortable than that he has a perfect summer coat. It certainly makes no difference for any other competative discipline or for local level showing.

Only advantage of doing a full clip as your last clip is all the summer coat will come through evenly, if your last clip is a blanket clip half will be moulting and it takes a while for it to look even and you can have a messy in between stage about beginning of April time.
