Why does my horse get pink heels if that makes sense! He only gets it on one of his back legs and im never sure what it might be. At first i thought it was sunburn but it can't be as it hasn't been sunny for about a month now, so now puzzled of his pink heel. Can anybody help me with this?

just ask if you need further information !!

thanks

Is it raw or sore? Is he out in a wet field which could be irritating it? Is his skin just pink there? My boy has pink bits! If its not bothering him I'd leave it - if its due to wet or mud try keeping it clean and using a barrier cream like sudocrem

i don't think it bothers him. It is raw i have put sudacrem on it many a time but it just keeps coming back. He is in a field where at the moment, it is quite wet and muddy. Yes, that is the only pink bit he has no-where else:)

I believe pink skin/white bits are more sensitive, try putting sudocrem on, then close contact turnout boots, the boots stop the heels getting wet, it helped my boy when he had mud fever on his white legs, I used to sponge the cream off the boots and dry them with a towel

A yeast infection can be the cause of pink coming through from the skin onto the coat in dogs..... our yellow lab had it and had a pink neck for a while (skin and fur). Could it also apply to horses?
