Why does my horse wee when she greets me?

When I go and check on my pony in the evening, she always does a little wee when she sees me walking over to her field!? I was just wondering if anyone knew why she does this? She has always done it!

Maybe she associates seeing you with being ridden and doesn't like going for a wee/having a full bladder when being ridden - clever horsie!! :D

^ that's what I was going to suggest! One of ours does it every time you approach him with a headcollar, but only ever in the daylight. If it's dark he doesn't do it (cos we're not going to ride him?)!

My mare always does it too, I also wondered if it is because she's anticipating being ridden and is getting ready so to speak....makes sense as she never stops for a wee when being exercised........Or is it because she is dozing when I arrive home and she has just woken up? I think its one of those two :D

Lol, I used to have one like that but then got taught a neat trick to keep an old bucket by the stable door and do a pee collection - horse didn't mind and it kept the bed nice and dry too! ;)

Haha strange isn't it! Well it's good to know it's not just my horse that does it! She does like her little habits and routines, so perhaps that's just one of them! She usually knows if I am going to ride her cos she see's me carrying the saddle across and then decides to go back off down the field! She's a bit of a minx sometimes! :D

One of our boys does that - I quite like it when he does it in the field as he's really wet in his stable. In the morning I get him straight out before he's had a chance then he goes as soon as he's out. The other pony always goes and has a drink as soon as he goes out to the field even though he has water left in his stable. I guess we all have our own funny little habits. :)

Yes mine wees when he's out and I turn up to the field with the saddle! He poos as well... I have trained him to pee in a bucket on a morning in his stable too, he stands and waits til the bucket is in position and then does it. He is clever!

Mine does it every morning when stabled. He sees my car pull up at the yard gate and his head's over the door, then he sees it's me that gets out the car, he disappears back into the stable and when I reach his door he's having a relaxed wee at the back - he's not overly excited to see me, just very routine I think as he's one of those horses that poos and wees in the exact same place in his stable every day as well...

my old boy used to wee before he would eat dinner, sometimes he had just had a wee then would be presented with dinner and have to "squeeze one out"!

Kal always does it when being brought in from a field full of grass . . . he'll even "assume the position" and then gaze off into space without producing anything. . . I've always thought it was his stall tactic . . . he doesn't do it if the field has very little grass and he's hungry ;).

He also wees in his stable first thing when I bring him in . . . I've always thought it was a way of making his (now clean) box smell like him . . . but I could be making that up ;).
