Just changed this post as a reputable individual do not want to use this as advertising space so will re word, we are selling a very genuine young horse who has not done any affiliated to date, however has an excellent unaffiliated record, in a young competition horse what do people want to see, I have every other peson asking does he had BD points or BSJA Winnings, is this really essential as most of you will agree it is so costly to register and time consuming, should we agree to a trial, but then what happens if he gets injured, surley the basis of a good competition horse is temprament and trainability with a sure start to a competition future, or are we in an economy where no one wants to purchase at the moment, what are these horses in horse and hound really selling for ???? would you pay more with a reputable dealer or a private individual.

If I am honest I would say that there are not many people wanting a horse that large so your market is already limited and also at £7k I would like to see more proof of competition experience. I know you say he is jumping 1.30m courses but I would like to probably see a few double clears even if it was only at BN or Discovery or maybe a few BD points.

Well he is a lovely big boy and I'm on the look out for a new horse however, there is no way i could afford that kind of money. Apart from the fact your at the other end of the country from me.

It is a double edged sword at the mo with the credit crunch as people are putting horses up for sale at ridiculous prices in order to keep themselves in profit, whilst people that are looking to buy horses are looking for a bargain cos they can't afford to be paying out huge amounts of money.

That's how I feel anyway!

Err...Advertising?

I know this is technically speaking advertising, but it does seem that it is acceptable for some people to do it and not others.

I guess it is more acceptable if you are not new on the forum...

A friend recently sold a 17h dressage horse, he was a decent type, easy in every way and competed very successfully up to elementary having previously been successful at county WH. Sorry to say but it took them ages to sell him and they ended up reducing the price considerably. They did at one point talk to dealers as he was for sale due to owners ill heath and they were fairly desperate but the feedback was that big horses are hard to sell and they offered them peanuts for him. He was a real gentle giant, they just didn't get the calls, he was older (10) but in the end they had reduced the price to £3500 (from 7k) and he went - sorry to be the voice of gloom!

I think its because he has no real competition experience. Anyone can jump a horse over 1.30 at home- it doesnt mean they will do it at a show. The picture on the flat does the horse no favours either.

Having said that, a price of around 6.k should get you some interest. £8.5k was over priced in my view and I wouldnt have even bothered calling at that price. Sorry, dont mean to sound harsh!

The pics do not work for me on the website I am afraid. I am looking for a big jumping horse, but I wouldn't pay £7k for an unproven one I am afraid. Can you PM me the pics please.

All changed now appologies for the advertising, not used the forum before, and yes very familiar with horsequest, horse and hound/ horsemart etc etc etc, thankyou all. xxx

Think that the credit crunch is affecting everyone - well, more the price of fuel, food, everything going up massively in price except the average salary!!

There seems to be an awful lot of horses for sale and not so many buyers at the mo.

As to whether your horse is correctly priced I don't know, but I'm always a bit suspicious of people who say the horse jumps, for instance 1.30m when the biggest you can usually jump Unaff anywhere is 1.05m.

Many horses can jump a sole jump at that height, and a lot will do a course that size at home, but at a show, no.

So personally would rather see an ad that says the horse is regularly winning Unaff Opens, or getting placed with scope to go on but rider can't afford the fees, or something like that.

I was interested in Adrian my current horse cos he had a modest amount of BSJA winnings. It wasn't a huge amount, £40, but he was only 4 & it was enough to prove that he had the ability/temperament to go out & do the job. Plus the dealer had a DVD of him actually doing it.

Could you do a couple of bsja shows on a ticket? Then that would give you something concrete to put in your ad. Just an idea...

Yes I agree people do jump their horses at the big one off fences and claim their horses can jump around big 1.30 tracks however, we have gone down the route of hiring the big show centre arenas rather than hanging around at a ahow all day so we get regular opportunities to do the big tracks away from home, and it is more cost effective and you get so many more rounds to the pound !!! however I think the answer is to actually register this horse BSJA and have the last laugh !!!! only trouble is the horse likes an audience but I dont .....
