Why does the Royal Highland show require pre-purchased tickets these days?

I was wondering why shows like the Royal Highland Show requires pre-purchased tickets nowadays? Will they ever go back to the old ways of tickets being bought on the day? The last time I went must have been 8 years ago, and I remember rocking up on the day with a party of 9 and being able to get tickets at the gate. I understand why this was restricted during covid but surely things are more or less back to normal. How did they manage to fit the volume of people they had before? I've a friend who's last minute decided she wants to come, but getting tickets (the resell ones) is a nightmare, especially as 99% of them are scammers. I also remember it being crowded 8 years ago, but not overcrowded by any means-we also went on a Saturday, and it is a big show after all, I feel like the buzzy atmosphere is part of it. Never been since Covid though so not sure what it will be like this year. Will the restriction of no tickets at the gate not massively affect their revenue and also sales of the retailers, since presumably less people will be getting through?
Is it the same for Blair Castle? I've never been so this will be my first year going to Blair, just purchased my tickets well in advanced, but again no tickets can be bought at the gate- has this always been so?
I feel like this has become the new norm for a lot of places, and not just the horsey events, obviously is inconvenient for us as we often last minute decide to go to an event. Sure, we can be more organised, but just wondered if there is a reason why a lot of events are keeping this system.

The Great Yorkshire show is capped at 35,000 tickets sold for each day and they were sold out a week in advance last year. Then there are the members who are free to go any or all days. Despite being a large site this is plenty full enough for me.

They also added an extra day making it a four day show and the extra day is staying.

The numbers in attendance are capped due to a deal they made with the government to run in 2021 as the showcase and 2022 as a full show. The cap must include all competitors and people working on site. I think the cap will be lifted in a few years as I am sure it was a 5year deal. Prices won't drop though. £37.50 per person, £15 to park.
