Why have I had no interest in my trailer?

I put my Ifor Williams trailer on Horsemart last weekend but I haven't had one phonecall! Usually they are so popular and impossible to get your hands on a decent one. I would've thought it was a good time of year to advertise what with summer on the way? I've also put it on Ebay but watching other trailers on there, they are not selling. I don't want to give it away at a ridiculous price. What am I doing wrong???

Here is the ad

I think in general that people are still watching their pennies. My RC entries are way down on last year. If it's any consolation I paid what you are asking for mine which is a similar age 2 years ago, hang in there it will sell.:)

They do hold their value well though. I'd happily knock a little off the price but don't really want to let it go for less than 2k as its in such good condition. I've studied the prices of identical trailers and they are around the same price range. None seem to be selling though. Watching Ebay the listings are ending and they've had no bids, this is newer trailers as well.

Bit expensive for a 9 year old trailer? Not sure how much a new one is, but I had a look at them last year and thought they were reasonably priced.

I too think it may be slightly overpriced. I bought an 18 mths old one for £2550 a couple of years ago and my friend has just got a mega bargain, a 510, 2 1/2 yrs old for £2000. I do realise she has fell really really lucky though.

Personally I would keep the price as it is, it will sell just give it time and also plaster it over all the free horsey adverts and whatnot.

When I brought my friends ifor (exact same as yours, though a few hundred cheaper as was from a friend) the dealership said, it doesn't matter how old it was, once you get the ali floor in they keep their money so well, it will sell as much as the newer ones as they just don't fall apart or age as you think...i.e they are still as good. I got a good deal and he said mine was worth as much as yours is selling for, so I would hang in there.

Goodluck.x

As others have said, the price. My friend has just bought a year old trailer for £2600. Its a buyers market.

we have just sold our 9 year old (trailer that is) for £2.250 on trade it so it can be done you just have to wait for yours to go. (the add was in for 8 weeks)

Thanks everyone for the advice, I think I'll hang in there for a while as I'm not in a hurry to sell it. I can always drop the price at a later date if needs be.

I think it was your trailer I put in my watch list this afternoon, i'm sure it has 2 bids on it now though ? - I was interested but to be honest I thought i'd get a newer one for that sort of money which is why I stuck it in watch just to see what it made. Good luck with the auction though, it is the best time of year for selling.

I just read through this after I'd typed it and it sounds really negative, it's supposed to be helpful so please bear that in mind.:)

A couple of things spring to mind. Firstly it comes up as taking 0 horses, so if people are searching for 2 horse trailers it won't appear.

Secondly the pictures are uninspiring. OK so it's a bog standard trailer but in its first picture it's part hidden behind a wall. In other pictures there are tatty bits of string around - well I assume they're string, they look a bit like rust in the photo. In the one with the front ramp down there is water part way on the ramp which looks tatty, if you'd wet the whole thing it would look much smarter. Also the inside floor needs to be spotless. It would be as well to get full side pics and a rear shot so that people can easily see there's nothing dodgy going on where you haven't photographed.

It is obviously tidy for its year and if you drove it to somewhere where you could take photos of it on a wide sweep of gravel, or some decent grass, or some smart paving and not obscured by walls and other trailers it would show off really well.

I also think it might be a wee bit expensive for its year but if you get some really smart-looking photos of it you stand a better chance of getting the higher price.

Devilwoman yes thats mine and it has had a couple of bids but I have been watching others and don't think I'll get much more for it, yoy never know!

Jemima_too, no all very sensible advice and I think you're right about the photos.

Hi Amy,

I was going to say the same about your photos - they don't do it justice. The muddy puddle one with dirty ramp is not good, might make buyers think you park it in a muddy puddle all the time! Also, your ad text is quite "light". You don't mention when it was last serviced, how many owners, does it come with a hitch lock/wheel lock?

I have just recently bought a 1 owner, fully serviced 5 yr old 505 from a main IW dealer with hitch lock, wheel lock and 6 months warranty for not much more than your asking...

You could consider contacting your local dealer too - they might give you a good price?
