Feeling really crappy at the moment.

Indi has lost a shoe and even though he has his mac boot on to protect his hoof i got down the yard tonight to find him lame and very foot sore.

I feel like im fighting a loosing battle trying to keep my horse sound. I know the damp conditions at the moment arnt helping his athritus and spavins ect but im trying almost everything i can physically afford to help him.

I could seriously cry right now, why him!!!! hes such a honest horse that doesnt deserve all this!

And now im struggling to get a bloody farrier out to him which is really annoying me, i have the money and right now i would pay double just to get him shod but none of them are interested or are fully booked for weeks and i just cant risk leaving him that long.

Right now im so deflated, i just want my boy sound and happy is that too much to ask?

so unfair!! poor lad, not nice for them when they lose a shoe and go sore, takes ages to get it back right too!!!

shame you're too far away from staffs, i've just tried a newly qualified farrier on my two and he is fantastic!!! he's got space for new clients too!!

have you tried asking one of them to come out for a one off?? they might not have space to take you on permanently but might help you out once?? ;-)

Do you normally use just the one farrier? If not then it may be worth thinking about that for the future, they tend to be more co-operative if you are a regular customer.

Have you had a farrier attend to him within the last 10 weeks? If so, you count as being 'on their books' and they have a duty to look after the welfare of your horse and ensure it is not in pain. If you ring them and explain that your horse is very sore and his welfare is compromised and that you will report them to the FRC if they don't come out!

If you haven't had the horse attended to in the last 10 weeks then you haven't got a leg to stand on, so to speak

I agree with what TGM said - ring the last one who came out if it was in the last 10 weeks. Are you on a yard, who does everyone else in your area use?

What's happened to your usual farrier? You say he has a farrier every 5 - 6 weeks. I always call my regular farrier when a horse throws a shoe. Have you fallen out with your regular one or were you considering changing anyway?
