A few weeks ago I heard about a 4 yo for sale which I thought might suit a friend of mine. I'd seen the horse once at a dressage competition, but hadn't really paid much attention to it.

The friend went and saw and tried the horse and found it very green, was still interested but wanted to see a few more horses before making her mind up. The owner wasn't in a rush to sell so that was fine.

Last night I went sj'ing and the horse was there. It was a bit nappy in the collecting ring, wouldn't jump the first fence (simple rustic towards the collecting area) and got a bit stroppy. They put the jump down and it got going and jumped greenly round the rest of the course.

When she went to do the next class (80cm) she had a job getting it into the ring at all. He didn't do a lot, other than not wanting to go forward, but once in the ring he jumped, albeit greenly again. I overheard someone say it was not like him and that he had jumped well last year (when he was 3?).

To my mind he just looks like a horse that has been pushed too quickly and is just a bit fed up with it all. I emailed my friend and told her what I'd seen. Now this wouldn't necessarily put her off, it is just info about the horse that she needs to have.

She has just forwarded me an email from the owner saying "took X showjumping last night, he was calm and relaxed throughout and jumped great in the 70s and 80s".

Whoops.

Yeah:D This is a classic:D
Sometimes though I wonder why people bother asking questions when trying a horse, because no matter what you answer, they don't believe you anyway...

What else is she saying that isn't true! One lie puts me off - I don't like liars! A farmer friend after I bought my horse "long story and lots of lies" said to me you should know better all people who sell horses are a bunch of lying B*******! I take people on face value and judge them by my standards so I am taken in very easily!

Certainly sounds like they are pushing this youngster far to quickly.

If I was your mate I would email back just saying, thanks for the update, my mate was at the same show and saw you there. Small world......"

Hehe this did make me laugh!
I would be wondering what else they arnt telling her.
Wouldnt put me off completely though, hes sounds honest enough, just doesnt want to be pushed too hard as a baby poor thing.

Exactly, it wouldn't have put my friend off necessarily, and would have made her respect the sellers all the more if they had been honest.

I am waiting to hear what she plans to say to them, but I am looking forward to seeing them at sj next week :D

I'd email back saying "thats fascinating, I was there watching a friend last night and your round didnt look very relaxed to me"!!
