Last October we had to have our little whippet x to sleep. I had had her since she was 3yrs old and my OH had known her since 2000. We were devastated to loose her and it was a huge change to our lives because we had no pet to come home too.

We decided that we wouldn't get another dog as we are both very busy with work. Instead we said we'd perhaps look out for a cat but due to living in a flat on a busy road it would need to be happy living as a house cat.

We wern't going to look as I've always believed animals have a way of finding you. So last sunday look who turned up...........

Meet Top cat, he is a stray and he has settled in so well (as you can see). It is so so lovely to have a pet again xxxx

He looks very chilled!! I was told that when cats die they advertise the vacancy...maybe it's true for dogs too. They carry on looking after us even when they are no longer on this earth. :)

are you sure he is a stray, maybe it would be an idea to have him scanned, someone might be looking for him. I know cats have a habit of settling themselves in houses because the people feed them. I know a few people who have lost cats and also some who have acquired cats that way. Hopefully he is a proper stray and he has landed on his wee pink paws with you. :)

Really sorry also about your wee dog.

Chestnuttymare - don't worry he's been scanned and is currently being advertised that he's been found. I'm a vet nurse and he was brought into where I work. At the moment we are officially fostering him but if no-one comes forward then we'll keep him.

Supertrooper, I also believe that when an animal dies, it sends a friend in its place. My wonderful Bosworth died last year. The day he was PTS i heard about an 8 week old bedlington dog pup, 5 days later Flodden entered my life. He is now my guardian, having taken on Bosworth's role. Scarily similar, tho totally different. TC looks lovely, and totally relaxed, I hope for your sake he is not claimed and you can have a huge hole in your life filled.

I know, as much as I hate to think someone is looking for him, I'd hate to loose him but we have to be realistic. We're regularly checking websites to see if anyone's reported him xx

Thats happened with us several times over the years. Each time an animal has died, another one has literally turned up a couple of days later. We live at the foot of the moors, so animals sometimes get abandoned around us. Last time a dog died I found a dog in the road. It had a collar on so I rang the no, and a man went "Oh has the bloody thing gone again! I'm on my way". When he arrived the lovely friendly dog cowered and he dragged it into his van. I felt awful, and think that was meant to be our next dog, and I let it down. We have two rescues now instead.

The cat looks lovely OP. Very cute. Do you get a lot of strays at the vets like that? I was at the vets with my dog yesterday and the lady sat next to me had a stray. We could do with another cat - our last one was PTS at the age of 17 before Xmas. Perhaps I should mention it to our vet?

Yes we have a fair few arrive during the year. We do work for a couple of cats charitys but we have also called clients who we think may be interested so definately worth mentioning to your vets xxxx
