My horses tail is falling out! he is NOT rubbing it and it is not being chewed. It is coming out from the roots, his dock is clean and not sore or scabby. Does any1 know what it might be and what I can treat it with before he has no tail at all?

Any sign of lice? or are you supplementing with selenium in any form as overdosing with selenium will cause hair loss.

My mare suddenly lost all her tail, I've washed it well with Nizerol and no more seems to be coming out. It was a real shock, one day there was a very thick tail almost to the ground and next hardly anything except a short fluffy mass like a foals tail.

5 months later it's just beginning to look longer.

Nizerol can be bought from a chemist - use it with hand hot water.

Tail hair loss can have several causes,

Nutitional deficiences, trauma to the dock (either direct or perhaps overtight bandaging?), Parasitic infections.

You need to pinpoint the cause so you can treat it accordingly
