why is it on here one rule for selling and another for buying?? double standards

Inspired by another post! This is probably going to cause a stir but I have to be honest here and say it doesn't seem fair!!

I have noticed that replies on here tend to sometimes be 'double standards'

ie if someone on here is buying a horse and something goes wrong the majority of posts say the seller is at fault and should have known and they need to put it right at their cost

However
if someone on here is selling it is buyer beware, sold as seen etc

This cannot be right surely

Good point! could very well be. However now that you have pointed that out, maybe we should try harder to see both points of view

I know what you mean.
The buyer turns up to see a horse tries it once or twice has it vetted and if it passes buys it. What they sometimes forget is that they are then going to remove that horse from it's familiar surrounding and it's routine and then they will probably try it on as they are unsettled.This doesn't make the seller dishonest.
It's a big ask to expect the horse to be perfect straight away.
The seller normally wants a good home for their horse. How difficult it must be to decide who is going to be the next best owner.Buyers come in get on the horse and ride reasonably well but how can you tell they will be the one to be able to cope with your horse when he tries it on.
It definately buyers beware or should I say be aware that it may not all be plain sailing in the first couple of months

Honesty between buyers and sellers is a must. Buyers must be honest about their capabilities and sellers if their horse may have any quirks.

I also find it odd how people will buy a horse from a reputable dealer, in fact will prefer to buy from a dealer yet if someone on here sells a horse to a reputable dealer they are doing the horse a dis-service. The horse will only be passed on, you should find a horse a home for life with a lovely private owner, dealers won't treat the horse right ect ect.

I must say I don't really trust dealers but everyones circumstances are different, everyones situation is different. I wouldn't judge a decision unless I really knew what was going on.

Also isn't it funny how if you post on here asking how much to buy a safe allrounder people write back and say 'horses like that are gold dust, everyone wants one, your looking at spending at least 4k'. Yet if you ask how much to sell your safe allrounder people write 'it's a buyers Market, horse hasn't got much competition experience, they are culling horses the Market is so bad, that breed is unfashionable you should be looking to sell at 1k max and be prepared to be flexible'!

Its the way it goes I think with anything! We were looking to buy a Land Rover Defender a few years ago, we were told that the one we wanted was rare and really hard to get hold of and therefore very expensive etc We got one eventually and paid a lot of money for it. A few years later went to sell it and we were then told they were ten a penny and not worth anything!
