Buying horses is a nightmare!! I'm getting so fed up with seeing horses that are not as they are described. Or they turn out to be lame, have a back problem/leg problems or some other hidden vice. I've felt really sorry for some that I have been to see. Whats even more scary is that I'm not even looking at the cheap end of the market. Is it just me that isn't having any luck? How many frogs do you have to kiss before you find a prince?!!!!

What are you looking for and what is your budget?

Goresbridge performance sales are on this weekend - I have picked up some great horses from there for 2k ish..
market value here 4.5 - 6k .

i no when i was trying to find one to loan, a lady replied to my wanted ad so went to see the horse watched her ride it first and it was really lame she said it was just stiff at the start of a session and lossens up after a while!!!! anyway i obv said no its lame etc month or so later i heard that she'd had it pts!!! People just want rid of horses they dont want themsevles at ridiculous cost for what its actually worth! hope u find ur prince soon!!

tell me about it - some of the ones I have seen have made my jaw drop open!

going to see a nice looking one tomorrow - sounds perfect, but I am cynical as always! LOL

I'm after something between 7-10yrs pref gelding and between 14.3hh and 15.3hh. Doesn't have to jump but be able to produce a nice test and be correctly schooled. Good to hack ect. I'm in Kent.

LOL quite a few IME. I also looked for ages and did all the usual checks and still ended up with a horse with problems. A friend also spent 18mths looking after a series of ' not as described'. She also came a cropper in that the horse she found was a 5 yrs warmblood and 2 yrs later he was diagnosed with chronic arthritis in all four legs and was pts. I'd personally never go searching again, I'd ask a trainer I trusted to find me what I was looking for.

Good luck

All I can say is good luck! I hope i never have to horse hunt again. My mum went out and vetted out all the mooses for me, after questioning the owners thoroughly first- one horse she went to visit, she'd asked if there was any recent/ongoing vets problems etc, had video's, pictures etc sent over, decided everything fitted the bill, travelled 2 hours to see him, took one look, promptly turned round and drove home. Why? Cause they 'forgot' to mention he had recently lost an eye, and not only that, it was not healing at all well. Talk about selective memory. Felt quite sorry for the poor beastie tho.

So I hope you have better luck than that

I have been looking for about 18months, on and off. We have moved so had a break. I think I am just fussy, but so is OH. I need a good kick up the arse when I get back in Sept to go out and look again. I have never looked for horses before and I thought it would be fun - I was wrong

I knew a man who was selling his gelding, a lovely safe chap and some people soon wanted him, but he failed the vetting

So what did the owner do? Put the price UP! (Allegedly to cover the cost of treatment which he never gave the poor horse). -And he wasn't cheap to start with. Needless to say horse is still there, still crippled and still looking for a home
